Chapter 10 Damage Control
Micah had not met Bradley before, though he knew of the man and his reputation as a hard-charging and, most importantly, profit-oriented executive.
Maybe it was time to arrange a meeting in person.
Micah sat down at his desk and pulled up the public profile of Bradley Gould.
It wasn't his habit to go into a battle unprepared.
After that, he caught about three hours of sleep.
A quick shower and a breakfast of French toast with coffee later, he was about to head into the office when his
phone rang.
Morton Cavanaugh seldom called him so early in the morning.
Micah answered the phone.
But instead of his father's voice, he heard the high-pitched whine of his mother's.
"Micah! Call your ex-wife!" Judy demanded. "Get her to take down that post! She's dragging our family name through the mud!"
Micah held the phone away from his ear before his eardrum got punctured.
He was glad he'd decided to spend the night at his condo at Emerald Hill.
If he'd gone back to the house at Hyacinth Park, he would not have had a moment's peace.
Micah put the call on speakerphone and left the phone on his desk, a safe distance away.
"You shouldn't have made that original post about the diamond ring. She didn't steal it. Felicia did. Darya is just defending herself, as anyone in her position would do."
"Why are you speaking up for that woman?" Judy yelled. "Are you saying this is my fault?"
Micah said nothing, as the truth would only add more fuel to the fire.
"How was I supposed to know she didn't take the ring?" Judy complained. "She could've just told me instead of making that post. Now everyone's laughing at us.”
As usual, instead of owning up to her mistake, Judy passed the buck.
This time, she pointed the finger at her son. "I told you not to marry that woman three years ago. She's a nobody, no help to your career or public image. Now look what she's done! If only you'd listened to me back then, we wouldn't be in this mess."
"That's enough." Morton snatched the phone away from his wife. "Micah, this is no longer about the diamond ring, or your divorce. Things are getting out of hand. That post is highly damaging to the company's image and share price. An online petition to boycott Zenith products is racking up thousands of re-posts. You have to du

damage control, and do it fast. Get in touch with the platform. Ask them to take down the post
"I can't," Micah said coolly "The platform is refusing to cooperate
"What? Did you offer them-
"I did," Micah cut him off. "And they are not badging, Besides, it wasn't Derya's fault to beges with The only damage control we can do right now is to issue a public apology*
"What? Apologise to that bitch?" Judy shouted in the background. "Never
Micah closed his eyes, let out a long breath.
Dealing with his mother was sometimes more exhausting than dealing with a thousand employer company. He wondered how Darya, who lived under the same roof with Judy for three years, handled it
Maybe it had been wrong and selfish of him to spend more time at the condo than at home
But there was no point crying over spilt milk now.
Micah scrolled through Darya's post again, which was gaining hundreds of comments and re-posts by the
second.
It suddenly occurred to him that she must think he was the one behind the original
post
After all, it came from Zenith's official account.
Had she felt hurt, angry?
Would she think he was vindictive and... cheap?
After all, what kind of man asked for the wedding ring back after a divorce?
She already thought of him as a cheater.
And now...
Micah rubbed at the tension spot between his brows.
It was not yet seven a.m., and he was already having the second headache of the day.
"Micah, did you hear me? Micah!"
Morton's deep voice was once again replaced by Judy's. "Micah, I don't care how you do it, or how much money it costs, but you have to make that post disappear!
And your ex-wife's the one who should apologise, not us!"
Micah listened to the busy tone long after Judy had hung up.
He tried Darya's number and found, as expected, no answer.
She'd either put his name on a blacklist, or she'd switched off her phone.
Micah cast his mind back, tried to think of places Darya could stay at, or friends she could visit.
But he simply had no idea.
Darya Miller was a stranger who lived at his house for three years.
He knew less about her than he did about the doorman at his condo building.noveldrama
Besides, they were divorced now.
Did he really have a right to keep harassing her?
Micah called Elliott as he drove to the office. "Have you found any trace of her?"
Elliott didn't need to ask whom his boss was referring to. "Not yet, sir. I've assigned men to keep looking, bu so far, no luck."

It seemed that Darya Miller had simply vanished after she walked out of the hospital that day
Elliott had obtained a copy of surveillance footage from the hospital, which showed her stepping into a lift
But she never stepped out
Someone had doctored the feed, or done something to the cameras.
"I'm working with an IT specialist to restore the feed," Elliott continued. "Meanwhile, I've sent another team to ask around. But it appears that....."
"What?"
"That Miss Miller has left the city."
Micah didn't want to believe that, but at the moment, he had no other explanation
for why his team couldn't
locate Darya.
Elliott was thorough.
He'd sent men to hotels, hostels, bed-and-breakfasts.
He was monitoring the credit card Micah gave Darya for any spending activities, which turned up nothing. He even hired a private investigator, one with decades of experience with skip tracing.
Micah asked Elliott to keep looking.
An hour before the stock market opened for trading, Zenith issued another
statement.
It withdrew the previous post which accused Miss Darya Miller of theft, and issued
a sincere apology over the "unfortunate misunderstanding."
