Chapter 16
Chapter 16
The Mackenzie family all had one thing in common: they were all arrogant and couldn’t stand any criticism. This was the case with Thiago, and Megan was no exception.
Megan wasn’t excellent át studying, but she didn’t think Whitney had the right to criticize her. Megan hated the feeling of being lectured. She raised her handbag, trying to throw it at Whitney’s face.
“Megan.” Thiago had just finished a cooperation meeting and went out to look for Whitney. Seeing the scene in front of him, he immediately grabbed Megan’s bag. “What are you doing here?”
“Thiago! You’re finally here!” Megan said.
She clung to Thiago’s arm, behaving like a spoiled child. Whitney had witnessed this scene countless times during her stay at the Mackenzie manor. It hadn’t intrigued her then, and it certainly didn’t now.
Whitney picked up her bag and left. She felt disgusted to be near Thiago, but in Megan’s view, she fled out of fear.
In Megan’s eyes, though, Whitney seemed to be retreating in fear. “Scared now, huh? Not so brave anymore, are you?” Megan called out after
her.
Whitney spared her a glance that screamed, “You’re kidding, right?” She had thought Megan was just picking a fight with her, but now it seemed like Megan didn’t even recognize her.
“Megan, shut up!” Thiago ordered.
“Thiago…” Megan stuttered.
“I don’t have time to watch your drama. I’ll let today’s incident slide, but if it happens again, I won’t be as forgiving,” Whitney warn
After saying that, Whitney left without looking back. She even skipped the elevator and took the stairs.
Megan was dumbstruck by the bashing. She was tempted to ask Thiago for revenge, but before she could utter a word, Thiago shot her a warning glance and dashed off after Whitney.
Whitney didn’t expect Thiago to be so persistent. She had only gone down one floor when he cornered her.
“What the hell do you want, Thiago? You’re so annoying!” Whitney lost her temper.
‘Is she that impatient with me?‘ Thiago thought.
Thiago chuckled, a glint of self–mockery dancing in his eyes. “Whitney, do you think you are of any value to me except for work? After today’s event, I hope you’ll reflect on your worth and consider my proposition carefully.”
“Piss off,” Whitney simply said.
Whitney felt dispirited after leaving the exhibition. ‘The Mackenzie family really knows how to stir up trouble,‘ she thought. Her phone rang at an inconvenient moment. “What’s going on? All right, just send me the location.”
After ending the call, Whitney abruptly changed direction from heading toward the Greene manor and instead made her way downtown to the club.

Jonah sent Whitney his booth location when she arrived at the club. Whitney parked the car and walked in. She looked around for Jonah and saw him in the corner, dressed in white. She trotted over, smiling.
She accidentally bumped into a man around the corner.
When Jonah looked up and saw Steven Hughes, his face immediately darkened. He put down the glass and ran to Whitney.
“Do you have eyes…” The man frowned unhappily as Whitney bumped into him. When he looked up and saw Whitney, he was stunned for a moment. “Whitney?”
“Do you know me?” Whitney swallowed up the apology.
Steven gasped. He didn’t expect it to be Whitney. He mused, ‘It is often said that bad relationships can take a toll on a woman. It seems to be true. But after the divorce, Whitney has become even prettier.‘ This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
“Winnie.” As the voice fell, Jonah put his arms around Whitney’s waist. He raised his eyebrows and said, “I have been waiting for you for a long time. Is this your friend?”
Whitney shook her head. “I don’t know him.”
After saying that, she was worried that she didn’t recognize the man. She stared at Steven again but still couldn’t recall ever meeting him
before.
That’s good,‘ Jonah smiled and mused. Whitney might not know the man, but he knew the man.
Steven was Thiago’s friend. He had been staying abroad for many years. Jonah hadn’t expected to see him so quickly after hearing he had returned to the country. Fortunately, Whitney didn’t know Steven.
“My bad. I should have come to get you,” Jonah said with a grin and patted Whitney’s head. “Come on, the gang’s waiting.”
“Okay,” Whitney hummed.
Steven felt a sudden surge of inexplicable excitement when he saw them walking toward the booth seating in the corner.
He went to the club rooftop with his phone. The cool night breeze made him feel sober. Thiago didn’t answer until the call was nearly about to disconnect.
“Do you want to join me at the club?” Steven asked.
Thiago refused without thinking. “I’m not available.”
“Tsk.” Steven scratched his head absentmindedly. “I just bumped into Whitney at the club with her new beau. He’s quite handsome. They appear to be quite close. Well, he seems far more attentive than you. That’s for sure.”
There was no response from Thiago. Only the beeping at the end of the call.
Steven shrugged, expecting Thiago to hang up. The next moment, a message popped up on WhatsApp. Steven clicked on it, smiled, and promptly sent the location to Thiago.
Meanwhile, Jonah intentionally moved to a seat beside Whitney and stuck to her like glue all night, fearing that something unfortunate might befall her.

“Hey, Jonah, it seems like you’ve lost all your sharp edges whenever you’re around Whitney,” Sophia teased.
“Enough with the teasing.” Whitney shot Sophia a playful look and raised her glass. “Tonight is all about welcoming our new members. I want to thank everyone for always supporting me. I wouldn’t be here without your help this year.”
“I’m not used to Whitney saying such emotional words,” Sophia quipped, mimicking a theatrical shiver, but everyone knew her style and didn’t take it seriously.
Jonah couldn’t stand Sophia’s pretentious act, so he said, “Can you behave?”
“I” Sophia wanted to retort.
“Stop!” Whitney intervened, preventing the argument from escalating. She redirected the group’s attention to Lester Fitzgerald. “Don’t talk too much. Tonight is Lester’s night. Anyone who steals the spotlight will face a fine.”
As soon as she finished those words, Jonah whipped out his bank card and waved it in front of everyone. “My money is Winnie’s.”
Jonah kissed the bank card before passing it over to Whitney.
Whitney wasn’t one for false modesty. Besides, she knew Jonah well, so accepting a bank card from him wasn’t out of the ordinary for her. She knew Jonah must have given her a card

a spending limit.
“Thank you.” Whitney took the bank card and put it into her pocket.
Everyone cheered. Whitney smiled and didn’t take it seriously.
At the bar counter, Steven held his chin with one hand as he calmly recorded the scene. Then, he opened the WhatsApp chat with Thiago and swiftly sent the video.
‘These two are really interesting,‘ he thought.
Putting away the phone, Steven went back to the private room and waited for the show.
