Chapter 28: Joday Spills Lily

Chapter 28: Joday Spills Lily

"Hmm, Lyka... Since you don't want to tell me what you and Doday were doing before she left... then you better tell me what she said to you before she left," Joday declared. I couldn't understand her, and her tone of speaking was really annoying. "Stop it, Joday. Not now, I'm feeling down—" "And so what? What does it matter if you're not feeling good? Who cares?" She interrupted me. I wanted to give her a nasty look, but I'd rather just lie down and sleep than focus on her. Ever since Doday left, Joday has become even more annoying. She constantly bothers me and won't leave me alone. It feels like she's always there, poking her nose into my business and teasing me nonstop. Her presence is like an annoying shadow that follows me everywhere. She seems to enjoy making mean comments and teasing me all the time. Genuinely,I miss Doday but I miss her more because her absence has made Joday's annoying behavior even worse. "Alright, you don't care and don't give a damn, so... Can I go to bed now?" I asked directly. "Yes, only if you answer me. Don't act innocent, what did Doday tell you before she left?" she asked again. It was astonishing how persistent she was in asking that question. She grinned at me. "You know, Lyka... I wonder why Miss Linda and Madam decided to accept you here in the mansion, even though you were uneducated and supposedly they weren't taking any more maids," she said. Joday's constant bothering and the way she talks make me feel nervous. It feels like she's about to spill some secrets or truths. It's unsettling, and I find myself getting ready for whatever shocking thing she might say. I feel more and more uneasy as Joday keeps teasing and making hints, leaving me anxious and unsure about what she knows and what she's going to say next. "Hmm, any thoughts? Why did their decision change... Why?" she asked cunningly while combing her hair. Was it true? Was it true that Madam wasn't going to accept any more maids? Then why was I accepted? "Are you overthinking now, Lyka?" "Just feeling sad. You're too foolish to even overthink!" She bursted into laughter.

I smiled back at her. "I didn't expect our conversation to turn into a discussion about my education and foolishness... Are you done, Joday? I'm not feeling well so spare me," I said, and I was about to lie down when she grabbed my shoulder. "I'm still talking to you, Lyka!" Joday's grip on me was tight and painful. She grabbed me with such force that it made me wince in pain. Her fingers dug into my arm, leaving marks that stung with each touch. "Ouch! Joday, can you please stop?!" She immediately touched my face with both hands and stared into my eyes intently. "Now, take a good look at that face..." She examined every part of my face as if searching for something. I furrowed my brow in confusion. Was she crazy? "If you're in the right mind, Joday, let me go, you crazy woman—" "Hmm, Lily!?" I was taken aback by what she said. Lily? Who really was Lily? Suddenly, my ears tingled with the name Lily. It was that name again. I remembered hearing that not-so-long ago.It was the same name Kiro mentioned to me before. My eyes widened in surprise. I was about to ask her who Lily was because I knew she had some knowledge about it, but someone suddenly pulled her away. "Joday! What are you doing to Lyka?!" Miss Linda exclaimed as she intervened. Both Joday and I were surprised, and we locked eyes for a moment. Joday avoided my gaze, but her eyes remained fixed on me. "Are you okay, Lyka?" Miss Linda asked, holding onto my shoulders. I simply nodded and sat on my bed. Miss Linda turned her attention to Joday and began talking to her. Joday said something to Miss Linda, who then turned back to me. "Lyka.… I’ll just go outside to have a chat with J-joday," she explained hurriedly, and without waiting for a response, she swiftly pulled Joday out of the room. I sensed that Joday had caught Miss Linda's attention with whatever she said, as they bid farewell and continued their conversation outside. What did Joday whisper to her? I couldn't help but gasp. Once again, the name that Joday had almost thrown at my face resurfaced in my mind. Lily? Who was Lily? What was my connection to her? And if it was true that Madam wasn't supposed to accept any more maids before I came, why was I still accepted? My own questions were giving me a headache. I had a strange feeling about what Joday had said, but I quickly pushed those thoughts aside. I needed to rest. It had been an exhausting day. I will ponder those things tomorrow. – Today, I woke up earlier than Miss Linda and Joday. It was my first day at work without Doday. I don't know why, but my feet led me up the stairs as if they had a mind of their own. I soon arrived at Kiro's room. I hesitated, not sure if I should knock or what to do. I must have looked foolish just standing there in front of his door. I had wanted to check on him and see if he still had a fever, but deep down, I knew that wasn't the only reason why I came to him this morning. I wanted to ask about Lily... because I knew Kiro had some connection to her. And to me…. Or is it all on my thoughts? I couldn't help but feel really curious about Lily and why everyone seemed to know her except for me. Who was she? And why did she seem to have some kind of special connection with the people around me? It made me wonder if she had anything to do with Kiro's illness. Maybe she was somehow related to him or even to me? I mean, it didn't make much sense. I had just come from a small town to work here and support my family. How could I be connected to someone like Lily? But I couldn't help but consider the possibility, even if it seemed unlikely. All these questions kept swirling in my head, and I couldn't shake off this feeling of curiosity and unease. I felt like I was missing an important piece of the puzzle, and I wanted to find out what it was. I was about to knock when the door suddenly opened. I instinctively held my chest to hide my surprise. "Lyka? What are you doing here?" he asked, breaking the silence. I averted my eyes, unsure of whether to ask my question or greet him first. "Uh... How are you? Do you still have a fever?" I blurted out. Due to my own foolishness, I reached out and touched his

forehead and neck to see if he still had a fever. I noticed him avoiding my gaze, so I quickly withdrew my hand. "I'm fine now, Lyka. Thank you for taking care of me yesterday," he said. Of course, he wasn't warm anymore, so I knew he didn't have a fever. "You're welcome, K-Kiro... But, where are you going? Maybe... you still need to rest?" I asked. Though he didn't show it, I sensed a hidden smile and smirk in response to my question. What was wrong with my question? "I'm fine..." was his simple reply. Now that the greetings are over, could I ask him my question? Would he answer? Should I really ask him? Would that be appropriate? ‘Just go for it.’ My inner thoughts encouraged me. "Is that so? Can I ask—" He turned to me with a smile. "I'll be going downstairs... to the garden. I'll say hello to your plants, Datdat and Dodong," he replied, noticing my playful tone. How did he find out the names of my favorite orchid and daisy? I never told him about them! Suddenly, I remembered the night when I had a conversation with Dodong and Datdat, the night he unexpectedly kissed me. My eyes widened in realization. I could feel my cheeks turning red because of the memory. "Hey, Lyka. Are you okay? Why are you blushing?" he asked, noticing my flushed face.
