Chapter 426
No, Xavier wasn't concerned about Lily. What he said was just a passing comment. Lily couldn't care less if he was criticizing her or if he was giving her good-intentioned advice.
"Why didn't you say that before I started feeding you earlier?"
Xavier shot her a somber look before lowering his head to continue eating.
A lump rose in Lily's throat. This wasn't her fault. She'd never imagined that he would feed her.
Even though this was a filling meal, she ended up being overwhelmed with discomfort and helplessness too.
Fortunately, Xavier was summoned away by a phone call after he finished his meal.
Lily got out of bed to get some post-meal exercise by walking around within her hospital ward. She didn't think that she would fail to get a direct answer from Xavier.
She lowered her head to look at her hand that was wrapped up in bandages and a cast.
Suddenly, a knock came at the door. She spun around, only to see Terence and two police officers entering the room together.
"Hey, Terence," she first greeted.
Then, she nodded at the two police officers.
"Ms. Joyner, we're here to talk to you about Bruce's case."
One of the police officers flipped to his investigation notes. "We have verified that Sarah Lynde was indeed the mastermind who instigated Bruce's crime. She has admitted to it-"
That overwhelmed Lily in an instant. She looked toward Terence, who nodded at her. In other words, he was confirming that the news was real.
Sarah had actually confessed to her crime.
Bruce and Sarah would both be sent to court in a few days to receive lawful punishment. At the very least, they would be imprisoned for a few years.
After sharing the news, the police officers left.
Instinctively, Lily asked Terence, "Isn't Xavier going to get her out?"
"Nope."
Worried that Xavier would actually get Sarah out, Terence had been keeping an eye out on the police officers' actions in secret.
In the end, he'd actually found out
that not only was Xavier not getting Sarah out, he'd even urged the authorities to expedite their investigation to close the case in the shortest amount of time.
Something wasn't right.
Lily sat down on the couch. As she thought back to all that Xavier did these couple of days, she felt that everything was off.
Not only had he stayed back to look after her, but he'd also fed her. He'd even said that he was going to make a public announcement of her identity as his wife.
Terence sat down across from her. "Is Hayden working on a game?" "Yeah, he is."
Lily nodded. Putting her thoughts about Xavier's unusual behavior to the back of her mind, she continued, "I'm not too sure of the specifics, though. Why do you ask?"
"I'm happy to invest in it." Terence smiled at her. "Ask him to call me. The company has been expanding into new industries lately, and I'm leaning toward competitive games."
Lily was overjoyed. This was the first piece of positive news she had heard within the last few days.
She got to her feet to grab her phone. "Hayden has been dabbling in games with his friends since his university days. I heard that they received positive feedback at the time but just didn't have the right opportunity."
She shared Terence's Facebook account and phone number with Hayden. She
also gave him a brief explanation of the situation.
Hayden was perhaps occupied, so he didn't reply to her.
Out of the blue, Terence said in a serious tone, "Lily, if you leave Hayden to me, would that make you feel at ease in your divorce appeal?"
Lily stiffened up. She lowered her eyes and deleted the messages she'd sent to Hayden.
It was true that the reason she didn't want to burn bridges with Xavier was her worry for Hayden. But how could she allow Terence to do her such a big favor?noveldrama
Xavier was the only person she'd ever opened her heart to. Other than that, she had never been in any relationship. As such, she was dense when it came to relationships. Nevertheless, as dense as she might be, she could now feel that ference saw her as more than a friend.
"I don't wish to go ahead with the appeal," she said.
She didn't want to be in a loveless marriage with Xavier. At the same time, she didn't want to be in a marriage with Terence that had nothing but love.
The Devereux family would never accept her. Even though Marika was very fond
of her at present, it was only out of pity and because of her friendship with Maryanne.
What do you think?
