Chapter 833 I'll Take Care of You

Phoebe's mind went blank. For several minutes, she just stared at Lori, making Lori feel a bit scared.

"Ms. Ziegler, don't scare me. Say something."

Phoebe was snapped out of her thoughts by Lori's anxious voice. She was dazed for a few seconds, then quickly grabbed her phone and bag and headed out. In her haste, she stumbled.

Lori quickly reached out to steady her. "Ms. Ziegler, are you okay?"

After Phoebe regained her balance, she took a deep breath, waved at Lori, and said, "I might not be able to drive myself. Call Guadalupe and have him wait for me downstairs."

"Okay, Ms. Ziegler." Lori took out her phone to make the call while following closely behind Phoebe, afraid she might fall again.

This time, Phoebe walked steadily.

In fact, she wasn't thinking about anything. The moment she heard Lori say that Theodore had been in a car accident, her heart clenched.

Even if they would never cross paths again in the future, she still hoped he would be okay.

She walked into the elevator in a daze, took it downstairs, and drifted out of the office building as if she were in a trance. Then she saw a black SUV parked by the roadside.

Edward was leaning against the car door, quietly looking at her.

Phoebe was momentarily stunned.

Since she had rejected Edward's marriage proposal, this was the first time he had come to see her. She slowly walked over and stood in front of him. "Why are you here?"

Edward noticed she didn't look well and frowned slightly. "Phoebe, what's wrong? Are you sick?"

Phoebe shook her head. Instinctively, she felt it wasn't right to mention Theodore in front of Edward. She said, "No, I'm not sick."

Edward looked at her for a moment. Just then, a black Mercedes, the car Phoebe usually used, drove up.

"Are you going out?" he asked.

"Yes, I have something to do," Phoebe said. "I have to go now."

As she turned to leave, Edward grabbed her wrist. "Phoebe, I heard you were called in for an investigation by the financial crime unit. Are you okay?"

Phoebe turned back and pulled her wrist from his grasp. She said calmly, "I'm fine. It's just a rumor. By the way, is your company okay?"

Edward wasn't surprised she knew. He said, "It's fine. My dad and Brian are handling it.

I just came to check on you. I'm glad you're okay."

They stood in silence for a moment. Phoebe then said, "I have to go."

"Okay."

Phoebe got into the car. As it drove off, Guadalupe asked where she was headed. She realized she didn't know which hospital Theodore had been taken to.

She thought for a moment and called Lawton. He answered quickly and, knowing she wanted to visit, gave her the hospital address without hesitation.

Phoebe arrived at Eternal Love Hospital. As she was about to run to the emergency room, someone called out to her. She turned to see Lawton waiting for her.

"Ms. Ziegler, Mr. Reynolds is still getting his wounds treated. Follow me," Lawton said. Phoebe hurried after Lawton. "How did he get into a car accident? Is it serious?"

"Mr. Reynolds was leaving a hotel lunch meeting at noon. I was following him when I suddenly saw him sprint. Before I could react, he had already rushed to the roadside."

Phoebe was stunned. "And then? Finish the story."

"There was a child, about two years old, by the roadside. The child was running into the street after a ball, and a car was speeding towards him. Mr. Reynolds rushed over and grabbed the child. Fortunately, the driver braked in time, so the injuries weren't too severe."

Just imagining the scene made Phoebe shiver. Theodore, someone so high and mighty, had risked his life to save a kid.

"Thank goodness!" Phoebe said, still shaken.

They reached the surgical clinic, where a young mother sat with a cute little boy.

The boy was wearing a small suit similar to ones Hubert, Boris, and Noomi had. Phoebe was taken aback.

The young mother stood up with her child. "Hello, are you the wife of the gentleman who saved my son? Thank you so much."

Phoebe was about to explain when she saw Theodore coming out of the clinic. His sleeve was mostly cut off and his arm was wrapped in bandages. His face had minor scratches, but nothing serious.

Seeing he was okay, Phoebe felt relieved. She said, "It's nothing. We're just doing what anyone would do."

The young mother bowed deeply to Theodore with her child. "Thank you, sir. I'll cover the medical expenses."

"No need. Lawton," Theodore said, glancing at Lawton. Lawton understood and led the young mother away.

Patients and their families were coming and going in the hallway. Phoebe, not wanting to block the way, quickly stood next to Theodore. "Mr. Brown said you suddenly rushed out to save them. What were you thinking at the time?"

She didn't want to overthink it, but she couldn't help wondering if he had mistaken the child for one of Hubert, Boris, or Noomi.

Theodore's face darkened. He walked towards the hospital lobby, his cold voice cutting through the noise. "Why, do you think I saved a child just to make you think of yourself?"

Phoebe pressed her lips together. "Of course not."

"Good. Who I save has nothing to do with you," Theodore said bitterly, with a hint of resentment.

When he had seen the child by the roadside, he had indeed mistaken him for one of the triplets. The woman on the phone nearby had also looked somewhat like Phoebe.

Without thinking, he had rushed over.

He had never done something so reckless to save someone before. After ensuring the child's safety, he had felt a moment of disorientation seeing the young mother and child.

He resented Phoebe and the triplets. Their existence constantly reminded him of his misery.

Yet, when he thought they were in danger, he had risked everything to save them. How ironic!

Phoebe paused, watching Theodore's tall, straight back, and sighed silently.

Would Theodore ever stop saying one thing and meaning another?noveldrama

He had always been like this. He clearly liked her but refused to admit it, doing things that made her misunderstand. By the time he had hurt her deeply and she had lost hope, he regretted it.

She quickly caught up to him, seeing his injured arm hidden under his coat. Suddenly, she felt dizzy and said, "Your arm is hurt. It must be hard to wash your hair and such. I- I'll take care of you."

Theodore stopped abruptly, and Phoebe almost bumped into his back. She was about to complain when he said, "You'll take care of me? Under what pretense?"

Phoebe was stunned by his question.

Yes, if she wanted to take care of him, under what pretense would she do it?
