Chapter 72 The Case Back then
Charlie looked at the woman beside him. At this time, her clear eyes were looking seriously at Nick, who was sitting opposite him.
Nick reached out and adjusted his glasses on his nose. “We also know Mr. Lee’s living conditions. He has a daughter who is still in junior high school. His family’s conditions are not very good. His father has been counting on him to support his family. Now that things have come to this point, he just wanted money. This one million is nothing to the M&F Group. Our only request is that after the compensation, Mr. Lee must follow our rules on this matter.”
“Your rules…” She repeated and turned off the notes on her phone. “Mr. Nick, we can only guarantee that Mr. Lee will follow the actual description. As for your so-called rules, as a lawyer, we have no right to interfere.”
“Of course.” Nick changed the subject. “But we came out to negotiate today. Don’t say these official words, okay?”
“You mean…” Before Evelyn could finish her words, she was interrupted by Charlie.
“If this is Mr. Nick’s current condition, we need to reach an
agreement with him before we can tell you the result.””
Nick nodded happily. “No problem. It doesn’t matter sooner or later. I’ll wait for your news.”
She frowned, lowered her eyes, and picked up the teacup on the table. She secretly tightened her grip, and drank up the Longjing tea in one gulp. The warm liquid ran down her throat and her whole body felt warm, but there was no warmth in her heart.
Charlie talked with Nick about some other things. Before leaving, Nick suddenly looked at Evelyn. Behind his glasses, his eyes flashed. “I heard that Miss Shelton is married, but I didn’t have time to attend the party. If there is a chance, let’s have dinner together sometime.”
Charlie looked at her in surprise. Evelyn’s eyes darkened, and her tone also got lower. “You don’t have to worry about my personal affairs, Mr. Grand.”
Nick laughed and didn’t care about Evelyn’s refusal at all. “Sure enough, like father, like daughter. I didn’t expect Miss Shelton to become a lawyer. We may have many opportunities to meet in the future. Miss Shelton, please enlighten me.”
She pursed her pink lips and quickly let go. “Mr. Grand is a
senior. I wouldn’t dare.”
Nick did not speak. He just looked at her with a smile and turned to walk out of the private room with his briefcase.
She stared at the man’s back until he completely disappeared from her sight, still standing in a daze.
Charlie raised his eyebrows and stepped forward to block her sight. “Did you know Nick Grand before?”
She shook her head. After that, she felt that something was wrong. “I know him. He was in charge of my father’s previous case. We have nothing to do with each other.”

“Yes.” Thinking of the past, she felt inexplicably upset. Thinking of the conversation just now, she couldn’t help asking him, “Mr. Athena, why didn’t you refuse Mr. Grand’s conditions directly just now?”
Charlie’s eyes became serious. “We’re just lawyers responsible for the lawsuit. As for what to do, it’s up to the client.”
The implication was that if Mr. Lee could accept Mr. Grand’s conditions, there was a high chance that the two of them would reconcile, even if it was wrong to do so.
If Mr. Lee really agreed, then M&F Group would have to pay more than one million dollars to buy a statement that
deviated from the truth.
It was no different from buying his silence.
But this was Mr. Lee’s choice. As lawyers, they had no right to interfere.
She understood, but she still couldn’t let it go. “I’m going to the restroom.”
As she spoke, she walked out. Before she reached the door, Charlie suddenly reached out and grabbed her wrist. “Are you
married?”
