Falling For The Contract Bride Chapter 316

Chapter 316

Chapter 316 She Was Your Lover

Mu Zhi choked. In the water, nothing felt real. She watched Jian Xiaoning approach her. She could still remember that the last time she met Jian Xiaoning wasn’t pleasant, but now Mu Zhi felt a sense of familiarity towards her.

She couldn’t remember where she had met her before! Jian Xiaoning pulled Mu Zhi up the surface, and she could finally breathe in fresh air. She looked at Jian Xiaoning.

Jian Xiaoning helped Mu Zhi into her room and slipped a photo into her pocket.

Mu Zhi did not notice. When they reached her room, Mu Zhi thanked Jian Xiaoning and quickly entered her room. As she was changing, she felt a headache coming on. She changed out of her wet clothes and left only to notice that Jian Xiaoning was gone.

Mu Zhi had people search for Jian Xiaoning, but no one could find her. Mu Zhi assumed that she may have some other commitments and left. Mu Zhi did not pursue the matter. She returned to the room and stayed there for the rest of the night.

When Mu Zhi returned, a maid was cleaning her room and picked up Mu Zhi’s wet clothes to wash.

At first, Mu Zhi did not mind.

The servant left with her clothes but soon returned. She handed the contents of the pocket to Mu Zhi and said, “Madam, this is…”

Mu Zhi stared at the photo in her hand in surprise and took it.

“It’s fine. Go back to work.” Mu Zhi quickly said.

The maid obeyed without a second word.

While Mu Zhi stared at the photo in silence.

If someone had told her that the person in the photo had no relations to her, she wouldn’t have believed them.

The person in the photo was wearing clothes that hinted that she was twenty to thirty years older than Mu Zhi.

Moreover, her facial features were extraordinarily similar to Mu Zhi’s. Mu Zhi looked for any sign that the photo was fake, but couldn’t find any.

Mu Zhi brought the photo to the mirror and stared at her reflection and the photo alternately…

She was confused.

There were too many unanswered questions.

Xie Xiu and her had grown up in the USA. And what of this woman? Was she her relative? Or even her mother?

Mu Zhi pondered and could not help but doubt what Xie Xiu had told her.

She was deep in confusion when she heard footsteps coming from the hallway. It was the purposeful strut that was distinctly Xie Xiu’s.

Just before Xie Xiu opened the door, Mu Zhi quickly hid the photo in her pocket and turned to look at Xie Xiu.

“I heard that you fell into the water.”

Xie Xiu looked at Mu Zhi. Anxiousness was still written all over her face.

Mu Zhi quietly nodded.

“There was a man who drank too much and came onto me.”

“I’ve gotten rid of him.”

Xie Xiu quickly responded after Mu Zhi.

Mu Zhi was suddenly rendered speechless and was in shock. “Gotten… Rid of?” She repeated.

Xie Xiu did not elaborate further. He was worried that Mu Zhi would not be able to accept what he told her. Instead he said, “The party has ended. Let’s go for a walk.”

Mu Zhi glanced out the window to find that the party really had ended.

She looked back at Xie Xiu to see that he had picked up his coat. Mu Zhi and Xie Xiu then headed out.

Once out the door, Xie Xiu reached for Mu Zhi’s hand.

Mu Zhi was shocked but did not reject him.

She didn’t ask where he was going to take her but followed him into his car. Xie Xiu drove out of the compound and onto the main road. They drove for about twenty minutes and came to a stop at a tall building.

“We’re here.” Xie Xiu slowly got out of the car.

Mu Zhi followed him in confusion.

They entered to find that everyone was still busy and scurrying about. As they went deeper, Mu Zhi noticed something strange. On the first floor, the ratio of men and women were somewhat similar.

But the higher they went, the more imbalanced it became. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.

They reached Xie Xiu’s floor only to find that Xie Xiu’s staff were all female secretaries.

Mu Zhi stared at all of them and couldn’t help but frown. “Why are all your secretaries women?”

Xie Xiu brought Mu Zhi into his office. At her question, he glanced up at her and laughed.

“Why? Are you jealous?”

“And wouldn’t you be jealous if I’m surrounded by male secretaries in my workplace?”

Even though it was a rhetorical question, the answer was clear that he would be jealous!

Xie Xiu smiled and invited Mu Zhi to sit with him.

“Are you worried that I’ll have other women around me?” He asked.

Mu Zhi was stunned at his question.

She didn’t know if she should bring up the strange woman who had approached her and said that she was Xie Xiu’s.

Mu Zhi hesitated.

She didn’t know where to start.

When she was still figuring out what to do about it, Xie Xiu said, “Some time ago, when I was checking the surveillance footage for your disappearance, I saw that a woman came looking for you. What did

she say?”

That woman… Was Rao Xue.

From what he could tell, Rao Xue did not do anything to Mu Zhi.

They had stood facing each other and spoke. It ended with Mu Zhi leaving in anger.

Xie Xiu could only gently probe when discussing her.

He couldn’t make any conclusions yet.

He did not know what Rao Xue had told Mu Zhi.

At Xie Xiu’s insistence Mu Zhi said, “She told me that she was your lover.”

“What sort of relationship did you two have?”

Mu Zhi asked him solemnly. Her voice suddenly tensed.

Coldness flashed past Xie Xiu’s gaze.

“She used to be my subordinate. I dismissed her for negligence.”

“Is that your only relationship?”

Mu Zhi asked again.

Xie Xiu frowned at her and quietly nodded.
