Chapter 30
The next morning, Xavier was still lying on the bed when Lilian got up…had her shower, dressed and left the room.
She didn’t bother telling him of her whereabouts and he didn’t bother to ask either.
He has just decided to keep his eyes and ears away from her, all he needs this time is to monitor her activities in order to conclude if this marriage will work out for the two of them.
After so many minutes Lilian had left the house, he stood from his bed… left for the bathroom, washed his face and brushed his teeth.
He left downstairs to find Ben cleaning the sitting room and Tracy busy in the kitchen. Chloe was assisting Tracy in the kitchen too, though she wasn’t doing much but keeping her company.
He was so happy to see his children doing the house chores without anyone giving a helping hand, meanwhile he was so sure that they would make a good family without a woman.
When he stepped out of the kitchen to the sitting room, he met Vanessa standing behind the door… she looked more beautiful than ever and he couldn’t take his eyes off her.
Vanessa greeted him and he didn’t hesitate to respond. Little Chloe heard her voice from the kitchen and ran to the sitting room for an embrace.
He was so excited seeing them play around like Mother and child.
“You need to start dressing up for school before you get late.” Vanessa uttered leaving with Chloe upstairs.
After a few seconds, he left his room too in order to get ready for work.
The image of Vanessa couldn’t let him concentrate on whatever he’s doing, he kept thinking about the beautiful damsel he met at the sitting room.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
She looked more gorgeous and elegant too.
Xavier stood opposite the mirror staring at his image, he imagined himself beside Vanessa… he thought of gripping her palms and stare into her eyes.
But at a point, he decided to cast aside the silly thoughts… he had convinced himself that Vanessa will never give a listening ear to him, neither will she give him any of her time since Lillian is already beside him… but then he wouldn’t know how to explain the fact that he can’t resist her sight from the first day he was welcomed in her bakery.
He had her in his mind all through but tried as much to hide it from everybody, because he wouldn’t want to flirt with a woman.
He heaved a big sigh of relief and got seated on the bed, his eyes studying how uncluttered his room seemed to be, yet Lillian didn’t bother arranging it before leaving.
Wondering the sort of woman he’s getting ready to be united with, he chiseled his face. A woman that never cares for her spouse.
He hissed loudly, got on his feet and began getting ready for work.
Before he was done, Vanessa was almost through with his daughter while Tracy and Ben were still getting ready.
He left to eat but the food wasn’t served yet, while trying to call out to Tracy… Vanessa assured him of getting the meal for him instead.
He felt happy at that assurance and got seated while Vanessa left to the kitchen and got his meal.
While she was trying to leave he called her back just to ask her some certain questions.
Vanessa felt baffled, because she wouldn’t want to talk about Lillian so early in the morning… her mood was so filled with happiness and so she would not like to feel sad before leaving to her bakery.
“I would like you to tell me the truth Vanessa, did you in any way offend Lilian that she is tormenting you this way? I’m so fed up with her characters… not only that she hooked up with a hoodlum to beat you up but she threatened my daughter to reject you in my home. I just want to know if you have offended her because I wouldn’t want to judge wrongly.”
Vanessa bit her lips, this is what she doesn’t want to hear… but then, will Xavier ever believe that she hasn’t for once offended the lady?
“I didn’t do anything to her, Mr Xavier. I haven’t once challenged her… I haven’t once offended her. I believe she just decided to keep tackling me…
She wiped her face, heaving a big sigh. “Before I left for my bakery yesterday, she pleaded with me to leave your home and she will pay me any amount I request… but I didn’t find this useful. You know I can do that and get the amount of money… and then save myself from her stress, but when I remember your daughter it weakens my bones….
“I knew I hadn’t offended her, but then she just developed a deep hatred towards me without a genuine reason… and I promise to end this work if this continues like this. I wouldn’t love to stay in an uncomfortable arena… but I just feel for your daughter because I know the pains will pass through.”
She sniffed, twisting her face, her two palms transfixed on her waist.
Xavier couldn’t stop staring at the beautiful lady with an annoying look. He understood how she felt at the moment.
Right from the first day he set his eyes on Vanessa, he had known her as a woman with a good heart…so cheerful that he welcomes even strangers wholeheartedly.
He wouldn’t try to think again about the reason behind Lilian’s hatred towards her, just like he had decided… he will have to get his eyes and ears of the lady.
He wouldn’t query her again but will be so careful this time to know the type of woman he’s trying to end up with.
“I’m so sorry for the pains you are passing through in my home, Vanessa. You don’t deserve such a thing… From the first day I met you, you have been so good to me and my daughter…she hasn’t for once complained of how badly you treated her. I myself have witnessed many times the way you both cuddle like Mother and child and it gives me Joy…
“Please I’m begging you Vanessa, don’t ever think of leaving my home. if I never wanted you I wouldn’t have employed you… A fellow woman cannot kick you out from your work. Remember you are the source of Chloe’s happiness, if you ever stop this work I don’t really know what to do again because I don’t think no one can ever take good care of her the way you do.”
Vanessa couldn’t help but affix a smile on her face at last, she left the dining room to Chloe’s room.
Xavier was so fast to gobble up his food and then he got ready to leave, while beside his car unlocking it… he sent for Vanessa who didn’t hesitate to come forward immediately.
“My room is so unkept, I would love it if you help me put it together.” he ordered politely.
Vanessa shuddered, she didn’t know how to reject the request because of Lillian… but she wouldn’t want to make Xavier feel bad while leaving for work.
“Okay then, I will arrange it before you come back,” she assured him and left for the sitting room after Xavier had driven off from the compound.
Vanessa made sure the children left for school before she left for Xavier’s room and began getting it cluttered.
She tidied the bed and began sweeping the floor, when she was almost done she decided to arrange the clothes in his wardrobe which she began doing.
She noticed that there were some dirty clothes below the wardrobe and she packed it at the side, deciding to wash it off before leaving for her bakery.
When she was done with the laundry, she came back to the room to get some certain things arranged which she almost forgot.
She found an envelope which she didn’t care to disclose. Rather she opened the table drawer and dropped it.
Her eyes narrowed as she caught a little attractive boss reddish in color, she grabbed it into her arms and disclosed it to find two diamond sparkling rings in it.
A ‘wow escaped her lips. She stared at the ring for some time and closed the box again.
A strange feeling developed in her but she couldn’t tell what it meant, the ring she just saw wiped away the joy and happiness in her at the moment… but still she couldn’t tell the reason.
She left the room instantly to that of Chloe, grabbed her handbag and left her bedroom to her bakery.
Throughout the day’s sales, she wasn’t concentrating. She lost her attention and felt uncomfortable.
She remorsed on cleaning up his room for the first time.
