Chapter 5 Confrontation
Chapter 5 Confrontation
No woman could stand the pain of losing her child. Elizabeth tried hard to bury it deep in her mind, yet
Marvin rubbed her nose in that memory without the slightest mercy.
Elizabeth twitched her mouth with composure, her tone sarcastic. "Congratulations. Your son will have
a bright future as the lawful heir to the Bennett family."
Undisturbed by her sarcasm at all, Marvin continued pushing inside her body with an evil smile while
clenching her legs. It hurt so much. Not daring to make a sound, Elizabeth bit her lips tightly with her
eyes shut. Miserable tears trickled down her cheeks.
If only it were raining now. She wailed on the night of her eighteenth birthday, but no one could hear it
due to the beating of rain outside.
If only a rainstorm could fall at the moment.
...
The next morning.
Confused by Elizabeth's swollen eyes, Ann then caught the suspicious red marks on her wrists hidden
beneath the loosen sleeves. With a frown, Ann took her hand before asking worriedly, "You seem so
weak. Aren't you feeling unwell?"
Elizabeth's fingers tingled with a tremble. She took back her hand while whispering, "I just have a
painful period. Don't worry."
Ann gazed at Elizabeth's pale face with her deep eyes. God knew what was on her mind.
...
In the evening after school, Elizabeth worked part-time at a cafe as usual. Late at night, several
policemen appeared and took her away without warning.
In the police station, Elizabeth saw the cool killer she met that night. Very different from the man she
saw then, Robert, in a light gray suit, was sitting upright with an imposing aura, his face chiseled and
impressive. Elizabeth once witnessed him shoot someone to death which kept haunting her since that
day. Yet, rather than a brutal murderer, he looked more like a gentleman right now.
A policeman asked sternly, "Miss Bennett, as one of the witnesses, please tell me in detail what
happened that night."
Elizabeth caught a glimpse of Robert subconsciously. It was wise to watch her tongue. She could tell
Mr. Williams's status as a powerful leader in the underworld at a glance. Even Marvin was nothing in
his eyes. Elizabeth didn't feel like getting involved in this.
"After vaguely hearing the gunfire on the roadside, I want to hide somewhere but passed out, perhaps,
out of shock."
"Really? You should've met him, right? He is accused of shooting someone to death that night. Did you
see it?"
Elizabeth shook her head cautiously. "He does look familiar, but I didn't see him commit the murder."
The police were just doing their job. The moment they were leaving after the interrogation, Marvin with
his face livid suddenly showed up. Caught off guard, the chief of the police station hurriedly came up
with a flattering smile. "Mr. Bennett, I'm sorry. We brought Miss Bennett here to collect some Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
information about a case. My inferiors had no idea about her identity. Please don't get offended."
Elizabeth, with a sense of guilt, didn't dare to meet his eyes. For fear that she would be in trouble,
Elizabeth claimed that she was sent to the hospital after passing out but mentioned nothing about the
murder.
Marvin approached her in silence, dragged her up to her feet with a glare, and turned to Robert aside.
Robert produced a meaningful smile. "Mr. Bennett, long time no see. It turned out that I saved your
younger sister. You do owe me a big favor."
Marvin pressed his lips, his face ferocious. With a forced smile, he replied in an evil tone, "How kind
you are to save her life! My younger sister is born with poor health. I'm sorry to trouble you."
Robert answered coldly with a sneer, "I just joked around."
Though uncertain about what happened between them before, Elizabeth knew for sure that they knew
each other. What's more... From the nervous atmosphere, they must have many conflicts. Though
holding hostility against Robert, Marvin had to bury his anger deep inside before this guy. Mr. Williams
must be somebody. In consideration of Marvin's insidiousness, Elizabeth couldn't help feeling worried.
...
Marvin's bullet-proof Bentley was parked outside the police station. Elizabeth's head knocked the seat
back as she was pushed inside violently. In great dizziness, she was suddenly seized by her hair with
great force even before she regained her balance. There came Marvin's malicious voice. "I did
underestimate you, Elizabeth. You're bold enough to provoke Robert. What else did you do behind my
back, bitch?"
