Chapter 1734
Chapter 1734:
Zora scoffed, her look toward Virginia filled with disdain. Her father was the second-in-command at Winbrough. If Virginia dared to offend her, she would complain to her father, ensuring that Virginia’s neighbors would suffer and likely direct their displeasure at her.
“By the way, Virginia. You’ve been working part-time for several years, right? It’s not surprising you spent all your savings on this outfit. I just wonder what kind of job lets you save over ten thousand dollars. I heard you haven’t been coming home at nights lately because of your job?” Hazel continued with feigned innocence.
“Virginia, you must take care of yourself. Don’t overwork, or your mother would be so worried.”
“You’re suggesting she earned money from being some kept woman?” Harlee’s voice cut through the tension, slow and deliberate. Hazel, caught off guard by Harlee’s directness rather than a response from Zora, was visibly shaken and didn’t reply.
“Answer me.”
Harlee’s gaze was icy, her demeanor intimidating.
Overwhelmed by Harlee’s formidable presence, Hazel’s body shook as she nodded almost reflexively.
“Yes.”
“I didn’t know transferring money to Virginia made her my kept woman.”
Harlee’s smile was sardonic. She turned to Virginia amidst the shocked expressions around them and said, “Show them your account balance.”
Virginia, complying, opened her messages and was stunned. No wonder the payment had gone through. Harlee had transferred a million dollars to her account. She had never seen so many zeroes in her life.

Before Hazel could check Virginia’s account balance, she found herself suddenly splattered with sticky drink, her face and outfit a humiliating mess. Harlee nonchalantly raised an eyebrow and tossed the drink toward a nearby trash can—it was Virginia’s, as Harlee didn’t want to waste her own.
Then, Harlee turned to Virginia, her expression unreadable.
“Someone’s spreading rumors about you. Want to set things straight?” Virginia nodded, her eyes blazing with anger.
“Do as you see fit. I will handle the aftermath for you.”
Harlee’s voice was devoid of emotion, yet Virginia felt a comforting sense of support. Determined, Virginia approached Hazel and delivered a forceful slap. Hazel’s head whipped to the side, her cheek quickly reddening and swelling from the impact.
“You…”
Hazel began furiously, but Virginia cut her off.
“Your mouth is filthy. Maybe rinse it out before you speak again. Stop spouting nonsense. My family isn’t wealthy, but I am no pushover. Spread rumors about me again, and you’ll regret it.”
Hazel stood, humiliated, drenched in sticky drink and nursing her swollen face. She shot back spitefully, “Virginia, just wait. You won’t get away with this!” Virginia was unfazed by Hazel’s threat. This marked the first time she had fought back after being bullied so many times.
Virginia turned to Zora, her voice soft yet firm.
“I don’t need your apology. But you owe me a slap.”
Without waiting for a response, Virginia struck Zora’s face decisively.
Stunned, Zora stumbled back, a look of fear in her eyes.
“Leave. Now.”
Harlee’s soft command carried an unmistakable authority.
“Why should I…”
Hazel began to protest, but Harlee’s hand was quicker, her slap knocking Hazel to the floor.
Dazed, Hazel felt a terrifying sense of vulnerability. Driven by instinct, she ceased her protests, grabbed Zora, and hurried away. However, Hazel was not one to forgive easily.
