Chapter 261
Whether he wanted to admit it or not, Simon had to face the truth. He could no longer afford to support Helena and Sarah.
Sarah's eyes widened. "What? Go back to our hometown?"
How were they supposed to return to their hometown? Did they have to slink back in disgrace?
Everyone there knew the Fitzgerald family had once risen to wealth. Even the town mayor had reached out to them in the past. If they returned, would they not become a laughingstock? Besides, their old house in town was no longer livable. Sarah couldn't help but ask, "How much money are you giving us?"
Simon shot back, "Why should I be giving you money? You're a grown woman. You can't earn your own living? Are you expecting me to support you forever? I'm not your father."
Sarah turned to Helena. "Mom, did you hear that? Shouldn't he at least cover your living expenses? Never mind me, but he should take care of you."
"What right do you have to complain about me? You're an adult, divorced, and unemployed. Yet you sit around waiting for me to support you. Do I owe you something? You really have no shame," Simon sneered.
"You..." Sarah was about to explode from anger.
Simon was unmoved. "After you go back, I'll give Mom a thousand dollars a month for living expenses."
"Only a thousand dollars?" Sarah was outraged.noveldrama
That amount would barely cover their food and basic needs. What about her skincare products? Her cosmetics? Even if they were moving back, she couldn't let her quality of life drop.
"How much more do you want? I'm only providing for Mom, not for you. However you choose to live is your own problem."
With that, Simon walked into his room, refusing to argue any further.
"Mom, look at him! He's completely abandoning me!" Sarah complained to Helena.
In
Helena frowned. She didn't want to completely anger her son. "Simon isn't wrong. You're a grown woman If you don't find a way to earn living yourself, do you really think he's going to take care of you forever? Do you think you're some noble heiress, born to live a life of luxury?"
Hearing this, Sarah felt like she was going insane. How could they say this? She was supposed to live in luxury.
It didn't matter. No matter what, she was going to take half of whatever allowance Simon gave Helena.
...
The next day, Simon hired a moving company and had Helena and Sarah sent back to their hometown.
The entire ride back to Yewford Town, Sarah was anxious. She was terrified of the neighbors gossiping behind their backs.
And just as she feared, the moment they arrived at the house where they had previously lived for 20 years, it happened.
"Well, well, look who's moving back!"
In a small town in the countryside, gossip spread like wildfire. Sarah bit her tongue and said nothing.
There were about a dozen families
in this alley twenty years ago, every household had been better off than theirs. But when Simon became successful, those same neighbors put on fawning smiles, which let Helena enjoy her moment of superiority.
But at this moment, things were different. Helena could no longer face them. Lowering her head, she quietly signaled the movers to bring their belongings inside the old, rundown house.
Looking around, the alley was lined with newly renovated three-story houses, each one clean and beautifully maintained.
Except for theirs, which remained a small, single-story structure. It was covered in dust, looking completely out of place.
After all, they had once owned a luxury villa in Greenfield City, so no one had bothered to maintain this house. Standing here, the house seemed smaller than ever.
Fuming, Sarah stormed into the front yard while holding back her anger as she unpacked her things. Then, she turned to the maid who had moved back with them.
"Make sure this place is spotless. I can't stand dust. It's terrible for my skin," she ordered arrogantly.
What do you think?
