Chapter 257
"Did she notice your skills and assign you any special tasks?" Louis' voice was sharp with impatience. "Let me remind you. You're not just there as an ordinary seamstress. Your job is to get close to Janice and gather intel on her work." "I know."
"So?"
Audrey glanced at the design blueprint in her hand, then calmly set it down. "So, no. She hasn't assigned me anything special."
"Are you completely useless or what?" Louis snapped.
Audrey lazily propped her chin up with one hand. "Mr. Jovarek, I'm just a regular seamstress. If I start snooping around too much, won't that immediately expose me? Janice isn't stupid. She's already wary that some of the new hires might be spies from rival companies."
Louis' expression darkened. "Is that true? She's that sharp?"
Audrey shrugged. "I'm laying low for now. I'll update you when there's something useful."
She hung up her phone without waiting for a reply. For a moment, her expression remained blank. Then suddenly, a bright smile spread across her lips.
She picked up the design blueprint again, walked over to her desk, and got to work.
A person with talent hoped to be valued and appreciated, not wasted and used.
Edward had returned from his business trip early that morning.
He didn't even have time to rest before going straight to the company. After hours
of back-to-back meetings, he finally wrapped up his work at nightfall.
Knowing that Janice was still waiting for him, he headed straight to her office. "Finally, I get to see you! Just in time!"
Janice immediately put down what she was doing and pulled Edward inside, shutting the door behind them.
Outside, Harrison exchanged glances with the bodyguards. Did she really miss Edward that much?
Inside the room, Edward raised an eyebrow. "What's going on?"
Janice rested one arm against his waist. "I need a favor."
It wasn't often that she asked for help.
Edward leaned in slightly, listening carefully.
"There's this woman called Audrey. Look into her for me—especially her family. If she has any relatives, quietly relocate them near Prosper Stitch Group," she said in a lowered voice.
Edward didn't even ask why.
He simply took a photo of Audrey's resume and appearance before sending it directly to Calvin. Calvin who spotted him endlessly, wouldn't ask any questions either. Within minutes, the investigation was already in motion.
Janice pulled Edward down onto the
couch and lowered her voice even
more. "Audrey works for Onley Group. Back when they threatened me, I caught a glimpse of her. They probably don't remember that I've seen her before. And knowing their methods, I suspect she's being kept under control. So..."
Edward instantly understood. "You want to turn her against them." Janice nodded firmly.
For a moment, there was silence. Then, she laughed.
"What's so funny?" He ruffled her hair, pressing a quick kiss against her forehead.
"Ever since I started working with you, I've realized that business is no different from war."
Even espionage and defection were in play now.noveldrama
Janice sighed. "I just want to use her to get intel on Onley Group-especially Simon. That bastard keeps popping up to disgust me. I'm sick of it."
Edward's gaze darkened slightly. After a pause, he said, "If you really want, I can make him disappear."
And he wouldn't even need to do the job himself. Calvin, Terry, or even Robert could make Simon vanish without a trace.
"No, no! If Onley Group finds out, they'll use it against us. We don't need to take the risk. He's already at the end of his rope. Once they realize he has thrown them under the bus, they'll deal with himo themselves."
She suddenly felt a firm grip on her chin, forcing her to look up.
Edward's expression was serious. "Stop wasting your energy on other men. Do you understand?"
Janice smiled mischievously. Leaning forward, she gave him a kiss.
"I understand. Now, let's go home."
Something flickered in Edward's eyes at that kiss. Without another word, he pulled her up and left the office.
Harrison quickly turned off the office lights and followed behind along with the bodyguards. When they arrived at the villa, Harrison stopped the bodyguards. "Stay farther away. Just guard the front entrance."
The bodyguards nodded and quietly retreated to their vehicles.
...
Inside the villa, Edward dragged Janice into the bedroom.
She suddenly felt nervous. "Edward, I have work tomorrow! You're not allowed
to..."
