Chapter 39 I Felt Relieved When It Was Found
"Miss Lynn, come in quickly. Grandpa has been waiting for you for a long time. I thought you were angry and didn't want to come. I was just thinking about whether to go find you. Luckily, you're here!"
What a hypocritical woman! Rejoyla used to think that characters like scheming women were made up in novels because in real life, there weren't so many fools who would be played by a woman. But after hearing what Ingrid said, and seeing Burton nod approvingly at Ingrid and turn to look at her, Rejoyla believed it though Burton was Ingrid's grandfather.
"Why are you blocking the door? You women are always so troublesome, making a fuss over small matters. Don't you know that Grandpa needs to rest? Today is the last time. If I find out that someone is causing trouble for Grandpa because of small matters again, I'll make sure they're all kicked out without Grandpa even having to lift a finger!"
Jason slowly stepped the last step and scolded Ingrid who was smiling at Rejoyla arrogantly. Ingrid looked at Burton with grievances, but Burton was contentedly looking at Jason. His grandson finally grew up and cared about him. It was not easy. He had thought he wouldn't hear a kind word from Jason until the day he died!
Ingrid walked in, looking dejected.
Since everyone had arrived, Burton tipped Jacquelyn a wink. Jacquelyn pursed her lips, stepped forward, and pulled Rejoyla over. "Joy."
"I see. I only hope that today's events can restore my reputation. I won't care about anything else, but if someone uses malicious means to slander me again, I won't tolerate it!"
Rejoyla was pinched on the waist and glanced at Jacquelyn's anxious expression, but she gritted her teeth and didn't intend to change her words. This was her last bottom line. Burton wanted to smooth things over and protect his granddaughter's reputation, which she couldn't control. She could also let Ingrid go, but she absolutely wouldn't allow anyone to look down on her or use her. She made concessions because of Jacquelyn, but it didn't mean she had to be trampled on.
Jacquelyn became anxious. Rejoyla's words were clearly accusing Burton. If Rejoyla offended Burton, how could Jacquelyn have a foothold in the Sterling family in the future? Why couldn't Rejoyla understand her good intentions? She was also planning for Rejoyla's future. While she was in the Sterling family, Rejoyla should try to please Burton more and preferably get married during this time. Then Rejoyla's life in the future wouldn't be a worry. Everything she did was for Rejoyla. Why couldn't Rejoyla suffer a little injustice? Compared to money, power, and status, reputation was nothing!
Jacquelyn blamed Rejoyla for being ignorant in her heart, but she knew that Rejoyla was stubborn and was unlikely to back down. She sighed to herself that she had raised a daughter who only caused trouble, and had to clean up the mess caused by Rejoyla.
"Burton, don't be angry. Joy is young and doesn't know any better. We're all family. Joy, it's just a misunderstanding. In the future, you should get along well with Ingrid and your other sisters!"
"No, I'm not good enough to be Miss Lynn's sister. She's the kind of person who would call the police at the drop of a hat. If we upset her, she might call the police on us at any time. Our Sterling family can't handle that kind of trouble!"
Ingrid pursed her lips and rolled her eyes at Rejoyla, knowing that Burton had promised her that this matter would be handled privately and labeled as a misunderstanding. As long as Burton didn't pursue this matter, she had nothing to fear. So, she began to taunt Rejoyla again.
Jacquelyn's eyes flashed with anger. Ingrid was going too far! Ingrid even dared to mock Rejoyla in front of her, so it was not hard to imagine how arrogant Ingrid was in private. Didn't Ingrid want to respect her? Although her status was not good enough for the Sterling family, Burton married her legally. Nick's family was too arrogant!
Rejoyla felt that she couldn't even summon the energy to be angry. Ingrid bullied the weak and feared the strong. If she was weaker than Ingrid, Ingrid would torment her by all means.
So, in the final analysis, it was because of their lack of power.
Suddenly, Jason said, "Apologize!"
Ingrid's face lit up and she looked at Rejoyla, "Did you hear that? Jason also thinks you are wrong. Hurry up and apologize to me!"
Rejoyla's eyes widened. Ingrid not only bullied the weak and feared the strong, but she was also stupid!
Jason was embarrassed by Ingrid's words. "I was talking to you, Ingrid. You should apologize to Rejoyla, right now!"
Ingrid still maintained her smug smile. She was so surprised that her expression hadn't changed. She looked at Jason with a twisted and ferocious face. "What did you say?"
Jason frowned, stared at Ingrid, and said impatiently, "You slandered Rejoyla for stealing for your personal gain, which means that you have a bad character. Grandfather is willing to give you a chance to reform yourself, and I won't object. But you must take responsibility for what you've done. You framed Rejoyla and accused her of stealing, so you must apologize!"
"Grandfather said he wouldn't hold it against me. Jason, who are you to make me apologize?" Dream on! Ingrid would never apologize to Rejoyla!
Jason glared at Ingrid and looked so indifferent. "Who am I? I'm Jason, the legitimate heir of the Sterling family. And you? You're just an illegitimate daughter who can be easily kicked out of the Sterling family with a word from me. Don't you know who you are? You like to bully people with your status, don't you? Today, I'm bullying you with my status. What can you do about it?"
Ingrid's face turned pale and stared at Jason in disbelief. She couldn't believe that he would say something like that, but it was indeed something he could say with his power and arrogance.
Hillary's face also looked bad. Jason's comment about the illegitimate daughter not only insulted Ingrid but also included her.
Rejoyla suddenly felt refreshed. All the grievances she had just been feeling from being oppressed by Ingrid disappeared. Ingrid looked down on her and thought she could be bullied at will because her identity was inferior to Ingrid's. But now, someone with a higher status was bullying Ingrid. Ingrid felt humiliated too!
"Grandpa!"
Ingrid pleaded with Burton for help. With tears in her eyes, she looked at Burton eagerly and hoped he could speak up for her. If Jason's words were made public, she would have no status in the Sterling family. Fortunately, everyone present was her family, except for Jacquelyn and Rejoyla.
Jason raised an eyebrow, sitting up straight and looking at Burton.
Upon seeing Jason's expression, Burton knew that he was truly angry. Burton had originally planned to smooth things over, but Jason's words made sense. Ingrid's character was indeed difficult to accept. This would serve as a lesson for her so that she wouldn't behave this way outside. Thus, Burton narrowed his eyes and said, "Ingrid, apologize to Joy. You were wrong."
Ingrid did not expect even Burton to say this. She suddenly felt that her whole life was bleak. She widened her eyes, glared at Rejoyla, and screamed, "No, I won't apologize. I did nothing wrong. It's all this b*tch's fault. I will never bow my head!"
Ingrid glared at Rejoyla viciously, pushed open the door, and ran away.
Burton was furious, leaning on his cane. "This is outrageous. She doesn't even follow my order! Jason, call your third uncle and ask him how he raised his daughter!"
"Grandpa, don't be angry. Ingrid probably just wasn't thinking straight. She didn't mean to defy you. I'll go talk to her. Please don't be angry!"
Seeing that Ingrid didn't mention her, Hillary felt relieved and quickly left after speaking ill of Ingrid, afraid that Burton would blame her.
Rejoyla tilted her head to look at Jason and blinked. What she wanted was simple. All she wanted was for Burton to admit that it was Ingrid's fault, not to twist the truth. She didn't care if Ingrid apologized or not. Even if Ingrid did, it would be insincere. She didn't need it.
Rejoyla tugged on Jacquelyn's sleeve. Jacquelyn suddenly reacted and said, "Oh, I remember that Joy has an appointment tonight. I'll take her to get her hair done first!"
Then she immediately grabbed Rejoyla's hand and left in a hurry.
Jason and Burton were left there and looked at each other in silence. Jason said, "They have left. Grandpa, you don't have to pretend anymore."
"I'm not pretending!"
"Okay, you're not pretending." Jason shrugged and didn't expose Burton. "But, Grandpa, I sincerely suggest you don't spoil your granddaughter too much. Look at Ingrid's behavior. She's a coward
who doesn't dare to admit what she has done!"
"What's it to you? Even if she becomes a bad influence, she'll get married and her husband's family will suffer!"
Even Jason, who was usually very powerful, had nothing to say to that!
"Why do you keep looking at me?" Rejoyla couldn't stand Jacquelyn's constant glances and asked uncomfortably. Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
At this moment, they had already arrived at the scheduled studio and the designer was selecting clothes. Jacquelyn closely followed Rejoyla this time, determined not to let her escape halfway.
In fact, Rejoyla felt a bit bored. She had made up her mind to go on a blind date yesterday, but for some reason, she suddenly lost interest in it today. She lazily lounged on the couch, staring at her WhatsApp. Oh, Jason was online. Should she say hello to him? She hadn't thanked him for teaching Ingrid a lesson. Although he was annoyingly domineering and didn't take her seriously, the fact remained that he had helped her. Yeah, she decided to message him to avoid being misunderstood as ungrateful. After all, she and Ingrid were different.
Rejoyla slid her finger and clicked on Jason's portrait.
"Are you there?"
......
There was no response!
"Thank you for today!"
......
Still no response!
Rejoyla glared at her phone, cursing Jason in her heart.
At this moment, Jason was still in the Sterling family. After leaving Burton's room, he simply canceled all his plans for the day and went swimming in the pool. After a few laps, he lay down by the pool and ordered the servant to bring him drinks. The servant brought him red wine and fruit.
Jason casually glanced at the servant, picked up the wine, and took a sip. "You did a good job today."
The servant's eyes lit up, "Thank you, Mr. Sterling. The time was tight. I will prepare better next time. There were some flaws in my arrangements, or the necklace wouldn't be found in Miss Lynn's room."
Jason glanced at the servant. "No, I only felt relieved when the necklace was found!"
