Blind Date Turned Proposal

Chapter 1384 Family Ties

Grape was adapting well at Olsen Residence. Fortunately, she was surrounded by familiar faces, and with her mother by her side, she felt more at ease. Children would often speak without reservation, so Grape kept asking for Dexter.

Mark had a fondness for the child, holding her close and refusing to let go. Hearing this, he glanced at Josie, who was busy with her work, and asked, "How's Dexter?" Josie cast a glance at the eager child, refraining from being too direct. "It's normal to be busy with work. Don't spoil the child too much."

Claudia then led Grape into the kitchen, where she had prepared Grape's favorite dessert.

Finding themselves alone, Josie finally said, "Everything looks okay now. He should be fine."

What Mark meant was different. "I was referring to the both of you."

Josie's movements halted, her fingers unconsciously pressing harder on the page she was turning. Finally, she said, "We're taking our time."

The wrinkles at the corner of Mark's eyes smoothed out. "Don't worry. That person is very capable. He'll definitely find a way out."

This wasn't just Mark trying to cheer her up, and it piqued Josie's interest. "In the decade or so that I was away, you were the one who watched him grow up?"

"Well, not quite." Mark pondered, then spoke of a long-ago event. "Young people often have less fear. Back when Russell Group was just starting out, Olsen Group faced a crisis that only came once in a hundred years. But I wouldn't really call it a crisis. It was more like paying the dues for my youthful self. This young man had the audacity to bring evidence to me and sign a contract with me."

In Josie's mind, she had a rough idea of what the young Dexter was like. She couldn't help but smile at the thought. It sounded like something Dexter had mentioned before.

"You signed it."

Mark scoffed lightly and said, "At that point, I was backed into a corner. He picked the perfect moment to drop a line. He told me success would come at a high cost. That deal was actually quite profitable." Unable to contain herself, Josie burst into laughter. Those were words that Dexter could indeed say and actions he could definitely carry out.

With the support of Olsen Group, Dexter's initial stage of taking over Russell Group as a newcomer swiftly skyrocketed to success.

"Back then, the lad was barely in his twenties, but I could already see his boundless potential," said Mark, half-jokingly. "But what everyone didn't know was there was another crucial reason I agreed to collaborate with him."

Josie was taken aback.

"Back then, I thought if you were around, knowing he was in trouble, you would definitely come running to me, asking me to agree to Dexter's request." Mark fell deep into thought and added, "Just like that, in a moment of inexplicable impulse, I found myself agreeing."

For a moment, Josie was at a loss for words. She hadn't anticipated that during the days she wasn't involved, many things had changed because of her. She paused before saying, "Thank you."

It seemed Mark didn't hear that because he was casting a glance at Grape, who was causing a ruckus in the kitchen. His smile was gentle. However, he suddenly said, "Don't mention it. We're family."

Josie had just secured a top-tier project and was gaining significant recognition outside. However, she still held little sway within the corporation.

Most of the time, she would be sitting in Laura's office, zoning out in a corner. When there was nothing much to do, she would rest her head on the desk and catch some sleep.

There were plenty of rumors circulating within the corporation, all labeling her as nothing more than a decorative, empty vessel.

All those words were refuted by Laura.

"She's no mere decoration. In her field of expertise, she has won all major international awards. Can any of you accomplish that?" Laura questioned.

Someone voiced their

dissatisfaction by saying, "Everyone

has their own field of expertise,

right? If she isn't here for that, then

why does she bother coming here at all? Is she trying to steal the credit?"

"What credit are you talking about?"

"Your efforts, Ms. Brandel, are obvious to all. When Mr. Olsen parachuted his daughter in, his intentions were clear as day. Everyone was quite upset on your behalf.”
