BIT 108

“Yes, Becky. We’ve tied them all up in the library, and the police are just ten minutes away; they’ll be here soon,” Harvey said as he released her from his embrace.

“Becky, take this to the guards in the basement. Tell them Nancy sent you to bring them this bread,” Max said, handing Rebecca a bag of croissants. She frowned in confusion.

“Max put a sedative in the chocolate cream filling. It’ll be easier to do everything once they’re unconscious. I’m afraid we might accidentally hurt my mother if we have to storm in with weapons,” Harvey explained, understanding the question in Rebecca’s mind.

“Okay,” Rebecca said, nodding.

As Rebecca was about to head toward the basement, Harvey suddenly grabbed her hand and hugged her once more. “Thank you. We’ll be just a few steps behind you,” Harvey whispered, his voice tight with emotion. Rebecca cleared her throat and nodded, giving him a weak smile.

Rebecca pulled away from Harvey and quickly made her way into the basement, a place she had never been before. The basement was large enough to hold about ten cars. She descended to the first basement level and saw nothing out of the ordinary. She continued down to the second basement level and still found nothing. Nervously, she went down to the third and final basement level and still didn’t see the guards.

Just as she was about to give up out of fear, she noticed a large cabinet with a door. With trepidation, she opened the cabinet door and as she suspected, the cabinet led to another corner of the third basement. She found a long, dark, and musty corridor. She looked back, and even though she couldn’t see them, she was sure Harvey, Max, and the others were behind

her.

She halted when she heard the sound of people chatting. Nervously, she knocked on the wooden wall, causing the four guards who had been chatting to turn toward her. They stared at her with furrowed brows.

Rebecca quickly pulled out her communication device and typed a message.

‘Nancy sent me to bring this to you because she’s busy helping Mrs. Specter in the library. I’m mute and deaf, so I can’t hear anything.’

She showed the message to one of the guards, who quickly read it. “Smells good!” one of the guards exclaimed, snatching the bag of bread from Rebecca’s hands.

Rebecca nodded politely, then turned and walked away. She didn’t see where Harvey’s mother was being held, and she didn’t look back even once. However, from the sounds the guards made, she knew they were eagerly devouring the chocolate croissants.

Rebecca exited the old cabinet door into the third basement and bumped into Harvey, Max, and two others. Max put a finger to his lips, signaling Rebecca to stay quiet.

“We’ll wait three minutes,” Max whispered, listening intently to the faint sounds behind the cabinet door.

Rebecca stood nervously beside Harvey, who suddenly gripped her hand tightly. She felt a mix of emotions that made her heart race and her stomach churn at the same time.

“Let’s go!” Max said, nodding to Harvey and the others. He opened the cabinet door and led them down the corridor to where Harvey’s mother was being held.

You did it, Becky,” Max said, stopping in his tracks.

Rebecca peeked around Harvey’s shoulder and saw the four guards asleep on the floor, their mouths smeared with chocolate.

“Tie them up,” Max ordered two of his men.

“Mom? Where are you?” Harvey called out, panicking when he didn’t see his mother around.

Rebecca sniffed, following the foul odor she had smelled on Nancy’s body. She stopped when she realized the smell was coming from beneath her feet. She crouched down and pressed her ear to the wooden floor, gasping when she heard faint sobs.

“Harvey, over here!”

Harvey turned to her, and he and Max hurried over to Rebecca. Is there a fourth basement?” Max asked, pressing his ear to the floor like Rebecca.

Harvey shook his head nervously. “I never knew about this basement,” he said, tapping and feeling around the wooden floor. Accidentally, he pressed something that caused the floor to give way.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.

Rebecca turned on the flashlight on her phone and pointed it down into the pitch-black space below. “There’s a ladder,” she said, her voice trembling. Even before seeing Harvey’s mother, she could already imagine what they would find.

Harvey hurried down the ladder, followed by Rebecca and Max.

The stench of excrement assaulted Rebecca’s nose. She winced but restrained herself from covering her nose with her hand, afraid of offending Harvey.

“Oh my God!” Harvey whispered, causing Rebecca and Max to stop in their tracks.

Rebecca peeked over Harvey’s shoulder and saw a filthy 2×2 iron cage. Inside, Harvey’s mother was curled up, crying.

Rebecca couldn’t hold back her tears. They streamed down her cheeks as she realized the extent of Victoria’s cruelty, all for the Specter family’s inheritance. She watched with a heavy heart as Harvey quickly opened the cage door.

“How could she breathe down here? D**n, Victoria, she’s a real devil!” Rebecca whispered, sobbing.

Max pointed to a pipe in the corner of the cage, seemingly connected to the warehouse above, allowing air to flow from outside to the space below.

“Mom, you’re safe now. It’s me, Harvey…”

Harvey’s mother only cried louder, hitting Harvey’s body, making Rebecca even sadder. Everything made sense now. She finally understood why Harvey had distanced himself from her and Lily and told them to go far away. He must not have wanted them to end up like his mother.

With great difficulty, they carried Harvey’s mother out of the hidden fourth basement and met the police, who had just arrived.

Rebecca stepped out of the warehouse, feeling relieved as fresh air filled her lungs. “Becky, Max will take you to the safe house. I have to take care of my mother. I promise I’ll see you and Lily soon,” Harvey said, looking at Rebecca while holding his mother in his arms.

Rebecca nodded, holding back her tears.

“I DIDN’T DO WHAT YOU’RE ACCUSING ME OF! THAT WOMAN WAS THERE WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE!” Victoria screamed as a policeman dragged her out of the mansion.

Rebecca heard the shout, and her chest filled with burning anger. She quickly walked over to Victoria and delivered a hard slap across her face, causing Victoria to stare in shock.

“YOU!”

“That’s for what you did to Harvey’s mother,” Rebecca hissed as she pulled off a furry mole from her face. And as she successfully removed her wig,, she could see the fury in Victoria’s eyes.

“YOU!”
