Billionaire's Pregnant Ex-wife

Chapter 23

Hidden Agenda

Thank God Grey's gone, I thought to myself, heaving a deep sigh of relief as I watched his car drive away Pulling the heary drapes back into place, I moved across the plush carpet and slumped onto the couch Ashamed of myself, I buried my hot cheeks in my palms as the memories of last night played inside my thoughts.

Removing my hands from my face, I fished my phone

out of my bag. I forgot to inform Celine about where I went last night. I was sure she was worried, wondering if something

bad had happened to me.

Biting my lips while guilt ate at me inside, I dialed her number. It was answered on the second ring.

"I'm glad you finally called," Celine said before I could even say hello.

"Did something bad happen? Is Mom alright?" The words sputtered out of my lips.

"She's fine, Lily," Celine responded. "I'm just worried that you didn't come home last night."

"Did Mom

look for me?" Feeling sorry for making them worry, I inquired, and when Celine responded yes, my guilt intensified.

"Don't worry, I told her you texted me that you were staying in a hotel. Overtime." Sensing how worried I was, Celine assured

1. me.

Relieved, I let out a sigh. I had never been more thankful to anyone than I was to Celine now. I could kiss her if she were standing next to me.

"I'm really sorry I made you worry."

"So where have you been?" Celine asked.

My lips parted, then closed again. I hadn't thought of a reason yet.

"Lily, are you still there?"

Clearing my throat, I pretended to do something just to fill the silence. "Sorry, I dropped something on the floor," I replied, wincing at my own lie. "About last night, I did overtime," I added; this time it was the truth.

"We had a massive influx of guests last night, so I stayed for an hour until the

foot traffic subsided. Then I went to the Bradford mansion to

take my things. I was so tired that I took a

nap on the bed and didn't realize I overslept. When I woke up, it was morning."

With my fingers crossed, I bit my lips for telling a white lie. I could tell Celine the truth to save myself the

effort, but there was no way on earth I would tell her I got drunk last night and had sex with Grey. Wild sex.

"I'm really sorry for not calling," I added.

"No worries. At least you're safe. That's what matters now," Celine replied. "I'll be off the phone now. I have to prepare lunch for your mother."

"See you later," I replied and ended the call.

Lunch? I glanced at my phone and saw the time. Indeed, it was almost lunch. The growling in my stomach reminded

me I hadn't eaten dinner, not even breakfast.

Hurrying back to my room, I retrieved my suitcase from underneath the bed and laid it open

on top of the bed.

With a quick movement, I opened my wardrobe and started gathering my clothes. I took only the clothes I wore often so my suitcase would not overload. I folded my clothes and pants neatly before placing them My eyes surveyed the room, double-

checking if I had forgotten anything. There was nothing important

left except my valuable jewelry. Grey had given them to me on rare occasions, and the number had increased over the past five years of our marriage. The earrings, necklaces, and rings formed a large collectio memories I didn't want to remember.

I went to the door, dragging my suitcase behind me.

The mansion was silent and still. Not even a servant was in sight.

My footsteps were the only sound I could hear Successfully unlocked!

I reached the foyer and skimmed the place I once caeu me is hau been my haven for the past five years. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be my home anymore once I stepped outside, and this was the last time I woul With a heavy heart, I turned away and hastened to the door before I burst into tears.

At the gates, Blake opened the door for me. As usual, he wore his paper-noveldrama

blank expression.

"I'll drive you home, Mrs. Lily," he offered. I shook

my head and muttered a quick thanks, giving him one last smile before walking ahead without a backward glance.

When the distance between me and the mansion was long enough, I stopped walking and waited for a cab to pass by the side of the road.

A familiar pink Chevrolet pulled to a stop in front of me. Natalia Romani emerged from the car. "Can we talk, Lity?

Natalia Romani drove the pink Chevrolet with ease and confidence. As usual, she looked stunning in her summer halter top pink dress that showcased her shapely legs. A man would look at her and drool at the Sitting next to her, I wondered what made me agree to go with her. Perhaps it was the grave expression on her face that pushed me to get inside the car and allow her to lead me to a place where we could sit a When she first emerged from the

pink Chevrolet, I subconsciously expected her to look at me with daggers in her eyes, then sputter words sharp enough to penetrate my protective walls. My expectations failed me, her actions weren't even close to what I had in mind.

Natalia Romani had come to me, as soft-spoken and

humble as a saint, begging me to give her some of my time so we could talk. I almost agreed to go with her in seconds.

But after how she had treated me during our previous encounter, I wanted to decline her invitation. "Please, just five minutes," she added desperately, in an almost begging tone. That moment, if only I had aske "Okay, five minutes." That's what I replied. Then I got into her car, and she drove the Chevrolet, looking for the nearest coffee shop where we could sit down, drink some coffee, and have a private talk.
