Chapter 26 Not fair
**
George rushed inside the room and met Janelle crying.
He paused. He probably hurt her with the words he said earlier.
Her loud sobs filled the whole room.
He strides to her desk and stopped.
“What happened?”
He can’t deny the fact that she’s his weakness. She’s the one that’s supposed to beg and… well, he isn’t gonna beg her this time around.
She raised her head up at him and cleaned her eyes.
“You done having fun?”
He furrowed his brows. Fun?.
She stood up and jabbed his chest.
“Christ sake, George, christ sake, why would you even do that!”
He moved back as she continued jabbing his chest.
When it got to a point, he grabbed her hands in the air with a frown.
“The hell is wrong with you, Jan?”
Janelle scoffed.
He’s going to deny, of course. It’s better she acts as if she doesn’t know anything.
She took her hands away from his. She stepped closer to him.
“Choose wisely, George. Choose wisely.”she whispered
“Ion get”
“You know what I mean”she said and went out.
*
Diana stared at her phone. She was lying on the bed and facing the ceiling. It seems as if she was expecting a call.
And yes!, she was. She was expecting Ren to call her. How mean could he be not to even come after her when she left the club?.
She waited for a long time and didn’t know when she slept off.
**
…. the next morning….
Janelle added some jam to her bread and took a hefty bite. She carried her cup of tea and took a sip.
“Ooh… so hot”she mumbled and fanned her mouth.
She glanced at her wristwatch and nodded.
*I still have one hour more. I have to get to work thirty minutes to the trial to go over the reports again. I cannot let John go Scot free again.*she thoughts to herself.
George joined her at the table. He was also dressed for work.
She glanced up at him but was still lost in her thoughts.
George felt her gaze and sighed.
“Do I look more handsome cause I don’t get?”he asked.
“The trial…. thirty minutes.. one hour… yes”she blurts out her thoughts.
George stared at her, pausing in his attempt to uncover a plate.
“Good, now. We are gonna be having a dialogue on your work now. Nice one, prosecutor Janelle. You’ve basically turned the house to a court room and I’m a lawyer where you are the judge.”he chuckled.
She snapped out of her thoughts and faced down.
His phone started ringing and he grabbed it, sparing her a look.
He picked it up.
“Betty,”he breathed out.
“Yeah, let’s meet”
“The usual spot”
“Thanks”
And he ended the call.
He took a slice of bread and took a bite.
“Bye, wifey..”he said and walked out.
With her head bent, she took a huge bite out of her bread.
Who is Betty?
**
Janelle arrived at her workplace and walked to her office.
Only few minutes after it was when her colleague came to call her that the chief want her in his office.
“What?, what for?”was the question she asked the lady but she only shrugged.
She scoffed before heading to his office.
What does he wants this time?.
She bumped into Diana on the way.
“Oh my Jan, you okay?”she asked.
“My question to you. Are you okay?. Your eyes looks puffy!”
“Oh, it did?”
“Yes. We will take later. Let me see that stupid man first.”Jan said and pats her back then went inside the chief’s office.
“You called for me”
“A *good morning* would have been okay”he sighed and turned around to face her on his swivel chair. A glass of coffee was in his hand.
“I still don’t understand why they took Mr Buckley away and put you here instead. You disgusts me.”
“Wow, how gutsy of you. I’m still your Chief, miss Janelle.”
“It’s Mrs. Mrs McFarland.”she rectified.
“Oh, really?. But screw that!. I’m better than that man. I have ..”
“Should I give you his number?”she interrupted.
“His?”his brows were raised up.
“Yes, my husband phone number so you can tell him all this you saying. I’m not in for your yaps this morning, Mr Lewis”
Lewis scoffed.
“You sure have guts”
“Yes, I sure have. Now, will you excuse me..”© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
And she walked out.
After she was out of sight, he threw the glass cup across the room.
Fuck this woman. He’s going to teach her a lesson.
He suddenly smirks.
**
“Awn, that was great, dearie. I love it. Nice job”Diana commended after the trial.
“Bet you did. Glad I was able to put that man behind the bars. He do not deserve to be among humans in the society”Janelle replied.
They were both on their way to their offices.
“Anyways, what happened?. You didn’t get enough of sleep?”
“I think Ren doesn’t like me anymore”
“What, why would you even say that?”
“I mean, it’s obvious. Last night, I saw him looking at a stripper in the club and after telling him to to go for her..”
“You asked him to go for her?”Janelle scoffed, opening the door to her office and they both stepped in.
“Yes, but you know, I was just.. you know what I mean. I expected him to come after me but he didn’t. No calls, text messages also”
Janelle placed the files in her hands on the table and turned to her.
“Hey. Give him sometime, okay?. What you just explained didn’t say he doesn’t love you anymore”
“But, no calls, Janelle. I can’t believe I stayed up all night just for his call..”she bursted into tears.
“It’s really not fair, Janelle. Not fair. Why do I always get hurt, why does it have to be me getting hurt every time. He should break it up if he wants..”
“What!, hey!. Your wedding is just few months away!”
“It doesn’t mean anything. At least, that would save me getting entrapped in a loveless or one sided live marriage for ages.”
