Alpha Knight’s Cursed Mate

KNIGHT

“What is your plan for Kailin? It’s my business because she’s not only my cousin but also part of this pack.”

“All my life, I’d never thought I would meet my mate, let alone at times like this. I didn’t stay in one place for a week. I always traveled for jobs. I didn’t like commitment because of the line of my work. The relationship is not for me.”

“So you’re just gonna abandon her?”

“She hates me. She hates who I am. She hates my work. I think it’s best for both of us. I’m not good for her. I will only drag her into my complicated and dangerous life. I’m sorry, but I can’t be with her.” The longer he said those words, the more his pain and struggle became visible-either from the pull of their mating bond or deep inside. He wanted to belong and be loved.

“Maybe it’s time for you to quit what you are doing and start settling in one place. My cousin deserves someone better. She deserves to feel loved and respected and a mate who can provide for her needs. If you can follow orders in your job, that means you’re not that cold-blooded monster. Considering you never revenged your parents-”

“I don’t wanna talk about it. My situation is far more different than yours. Your life is not that complicated. You run your own business, you’re an alpha, and people follow you. I can’t be with her. I’m sorry.”

“That’s bullshit.”

“I don’t want to corrupt her innocence. She’s too good for me to be involved with my dangerous life. I’m leaving as soon as this war ends, and she won’t ever see me again.”

“You’re probably right,” I told him as he was about to leave. “You’re too dangerous to be in her life. I will talk to Victor. I want him to assign someone to replace you, and I want you gone before the sun rises in the morning.”

I left before he could reply. I wanted to see if he could turn his back on Kailin. If he chose to stay, he wasn’t that ruthless and could change for her sake. He could be just like everyone with a difficult childhood, but he wanted to feel loved and be loved.

Something caught my senses just as I was about to get inside the pack house. I suddenly felt so much fear and severe anxiety. For what? I didn’t know until it hit me. It came from Nirvana.

I was about to link her, but she already did. “Knight!”

“Knight, is something wrong?” Dane came to me. I could see the worry on his face.

“Yeah. Nirvana is scared,” I answered him before I talked to Nirvana. “Sweetheart, where are you? What’s wrong?”

“Kailin has been shot.” She was panicking and sounded so terrified. “Help us, please!”

“What do you mean she’s been shot? Where are you?”

“We’re near the Tasting room. There’s a lot of blood, Knight.” She continued crying in agony, and I was helpless that I wasn’t there for her.

“Sweetheart, we’re coming over, or you can take her to the pack house.”

“Who’s shot, Knight?” I felt the worry in Dane’s voice and a firm grip on my shoulder.

I turned to him. “Kailin.”

“Kailin?” He stared at me in shock. “Where is she?”

“Nirvana, take her to the pack house, and I’m calling the pack doctor now.”

“You’re right, baby.” She had just finished talking and landed before us.

“Kailin!” Dane knelt before Kailin in Nirvana’s arm. “Let me take her to the hospital.”

“No. It’s too dangerous. Take her to the infirmary. Follow me.” I sprinted inside the pack house. We renovated two rooms into a small infirmary in case of an emergency like this. We had complete equipment, and Duncan was a doctor at the local hospital.

I dialed Duncan as Dane placed Kailin on the bed. “How bad is it? Keep putting pressure on the wound, Nirvana.”

“I don’t know. There’s so much blood.” Nirvana was shaking. Her hands and shirt are full of Kailin’s blood.

It felt like an eternity before Duncan answered his phone. “Come over to the infirmary. Kailin is shot. It’s bad. Hurry up.”

“Maybe we should call Zarah and Shadow. They can help,” Nirvana suggested.

“Shadow is not available, but try Zarah.” Shadow had training and healing power but was at a royal engagement.

“Hey. Can you hear me?” Dane never left her side. “She’s not responding. Where’s the help, Alpha?”

I faced him when his voice rose. “Calm down. Even if you scream before her, it’s not gonna help. I already called our doctor. It’s dangerous out there to take her to the hospital. She’s shot, and it was not an accident.”

“I thought we’re safe here,” still shaking, Nirvana asked. “I thought there’s a shield around the vineyard.”

“Yes, there is, but only a shield over the supernatural power.”

“So if someone drops a missile into the compound, we’re all dead?” Her eyes blazed with fury.

“Or maybe the bullet is laced with a spell. I will ask Zarah about this.”

“Walk me through what happened.” Duncan just arrived.

“We were just coming out of the tasting room and about to return here. Then, just like that, she just fell to the ground.” Nirvana wiped off the tears on her face with her bloody hand, and then she began to cry again. “Is she gonna be okay?”

“Call Aspen and Haylo. I need someone who has training to assist me.” He began working on the site where Kailin was shot. “She’s lucky it’s just below her subclavian artery, but the bullet is still inside her. That’s why she’s not healing.

“Give me a minute.” I dialed Alpha King. He knew how to operate.

“Alpha Knight?”

“Kailin just shot. Our doctor needs help from an experienced like you.”

“We’re on the way.” The call hung up, and my gaze landed on Dane and Kailin. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.

“Come here, sweetheart.” I pulled Nirvana into my arms and kissed the top of her head. “She’s gonna be okay.”

“I was so scared.” She sobbed on my chest.

The portal appeared, startling Duncan and Dane.

“What happened?” Sebastien was the first to ask and immediately took gloves and put them on.

“The bullet is still in her chest. I can’t do it alone. I don’t wanna graze the artery.” Duncan cleaned the wound while Sebastien prepared the instruments.

“Let’s start then.”

“Who’s he?” Zarah asked.

“Dane Colin. He works with the council.”

“I see, and he’s Kailin’s mate?”

I looked at her. “Yeah. He’s also Obsidian.”

“Interesting.” She turned to Nirvana. “How did you get shot when it happened inside the vineyards.”

“That’s what I want to ask you about, Zarah. I thought we were safe here.”

“I wanna see the bullet.”

“You can have it, darling,” said Sebastien. “You want a souvenir?”

“No, Sebastien. The bullet might be special.”

“Cast with a spell, you mean?” Sebastien stared at Zarah.

“Possibly, but I have a feeling Nirvana is the target, and since she’s protected, the bullet dodged and hit Kailin instead.”

“What the hell?” Nirvana stared at Zarah in shock.

“Who the fuck would wanna kill my mate?” I growled at Zarah.

“The right question is, who doesn’t wanna kill her? Even if the bounty is over, people are still curious about what is so special about her. Everyone becomes curious about who Nirvana is when her name is out there and why the council wanted her.”

“This is all because of Victor. I should have just killed him.”

Dane didn’t even react when Nirvana threatened his boss, but his words were as cold as could freeze the entire room. “I’ll find whoever did this. I’ll make sure he dies slowly and painfully.”
