Branch Thirty Eight
Hearing Xavier’s morning voice made Jessica weak in her knees. She put her hands on the sink in front of her to keep her from falling. If she fell again then Xavier would make a bigger issue than yesterday. He put on a tough front but it was obvious that he was a kind man at heart.
“What are you doing?” He asked again his hand going into his hair to arrange it.
“I want to visit Dawson so I wanted to freshen up” Jessica responds turning to face the mirror. If she continued looking at him she might gawk at him continuously all day long.
“This early?” he asked.
He could not believe that someone who was barely unable to walk in the day before was now the one looking to wander all around the hospital.
“Come here,” he said pulling her hands and taking her with him. He was not going to allow her to wander anywhere unless the doctor said she was fine after all series of tests to be done.
Jessica liked the warmth of his big hands over her tiny hands. It was like a miracle. While she dated Burke she was very sensitive and barely held hands with him. Even when they held hands she barely felt a spark within her.
“Sit down here,” Xavier said pointing to the couch. Jessica says down like a dog that was properly trained.
“You are not to leave this room until after the doctor gets here and says you are good to go” he adds going back to the toilet.
Jessica being lost in thoughts only processed what he said when he entered back into the toilet
“Wait, I’m fine I don’t need a doctor’s approval to move around now,” She says going to the toilet.
“Do you want to come to use the toilet with me?” Xavier asks as he hears her footstep approaching.
“Oh my God, sorry” Jessica murmurs turning back to the couch she was put on.
She waits for a few and hears the toilet flush. She stands and meets him at the door of the toilet. His thick black eyes stared at her with so much intensity.
‘it’s only loneliness that is making me feel this way’ Jessica thinks consoling herself. There is no way she could fall in love with this man.
“Do you want to say something?” He asked holding her hand and taking her back to the couch.
‘Snap out of it’ Jessica thinks again. She needs to take control of her emotions and be in charge.
“I need to see Dawson. I want to see him and I don’t need a doctor’s note” Jessica said ignoring the warm feeling that was traveling up and down her body.
“After the doctor gets here” Xavier answered not letting go of her hand.
He was wondering how someone could have such tiny cold hands. These tiny hands were the magic hands that made good pancakes in the morning.
“I have gotten through situations like this before without the help of a doctor,” Jessica said.
It was never a big deal to her so Xavier should not think too deeply about it. She was already better. The pain relief and fluids helped to get her up and running by the next day.
“You are now married into the richest family of the Chiachester city. You can’t go around lot treating yourself properly”
The sound of Xavier’s sentence sent a funny feeling to her guts which made her finger curl up. He felt her fingers go up in a ball in his hand and he knew he was now wrong.
“I am sorry,” Xavier said his hand leaving her hand.
The way her fist went up in a clutch he knew that he had offended her. He did not know what exactly he did but he knew he was in the wrong at that moment.
“For what?” Jessica asked surprised that he was apologizing easily. She did not know how to respond to his easy apology.
“I am not sure but it seems like you don’t like me to refer to you as the wife or daughter-in-law of the Delgado family,” Xavier said.
“It is not that I don’t like it or that I like it. It is that you keep saying that I am your wife but you do not even think of me as your wife and I don’t like that. It is obvious for both of us that we would leave each other in eleven months so let’s just live like that and follow through the contract.” Jessica said in one breath.
She did not know why his statement annoyed her but she was and Xavier did not know why her analysis did not sit well with him. He knew she was correct but did not appreciate her pointing it out to him.
“I would take note of that for the future” Xavier answered with gritted teeth.
Jessica could sense he was now annoyed. Although why he would be a mystery to her. She wanted to put it out there.
“Let me go get the doctor,” he said standing up and looking everywhere around the room except at her. He felt anger and wanted to leave to go resolve it. It would be better for them both that way.
If he stayed and expressed himself he would probably rile her up and both of them would be overcome with anger.
“Okay,” Jessica said and stood up to go lay on the bed.
Xavier left the room and went first to see his grandfather. He pushed open the door and found his grandfather sitting comfortably scrolling through his phone. He was probably reading the news.
“Your one and only grandson is here,” Xavier said trying to grab his grandfather’s attention.
“Is the company on fire?” Dawson said with surprise in his voice. He did not look up from his phone when asked.
“No it is not, Jessica was sick so I brought her here yesterday,” Xavier said.
At the mention of Jessica’s name, Dawson dropped his phone and turned to face his grandson.
“How is she doing now? Take me to see her” he said hurriedly.
Xavier instantly knew that Jessica had somehow managed to displace him from his grandfather’s heart. His grandfather was now more concerned about his wife than he was with him.
“I am also doing fine thanks for asking,” Xavier said sarcastically.
“I can see you standing healthy there, there is no need for me to ask you,” Dawson said pushing his legs down.
“Help me to the wheelchair” Dawson added in a commanding tone.Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
Xavier sighed he knew that there would be no stopping his grandfather from seeing Jessica. No wonder the two got along. They were both stubborn and did what they wanted.
Xavier moved and helped his grandfather into the wheelchair.
“Wait for a second I would go call the doctor and then we can go together,” Xavier said leaving the room.
