Branch Sixty
Jessica hurriedly stands to her feet with the coldness of the drink poured to her lap dripping down her gown to her bare body.Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
Jessica looks up to see the fuming face of Emma at her. Why would Emma do what she just did? They never had any major argument to say she was doing this for revenge.
“Oh my God Jessica,” Leslie said rushing to her skirt region with all the wipes she had gotten from her bag.
“Why would you do that?” Alicia said turning to the girl who had her face red and full of anger.
Emma takes a step back when she realizes that no one here was going to take her side. She was a low life here and she should not have done that. She wondered why and how she did that. She did not know what came over her.
“Why?” Alicia said taking a step closer and holding her by the shoulder.
Emma is dumbfounded. She does not know what to say. Should she say that Jessica stole her life? The life was never hers, to begin with.
“Er…. m.. mm” Emma murmurs and stammers as her finger goes up to her mouth.
“You were bold enough to pour the drink into her lap but all of a sudden you have forgotten how to talk?” Alicia asked.
“Mrs. Delgado do you know her,” Alicia asked now slipping her hand to hold Emma’s wrist.
Who was she and how dare she do something like this? Not only did she ruin the beautiful and perfect dress she just embarrassed the number one family in the whole of Chiachester City.
“Someone call the police,” Leslie said out loud.
Those who have been watching the scene scurry to their phones and begin to dial the emergency contacts. There was no single person in the restaurant who did not know and recognize the three women.
Some murmured amongst themselves about how the strange woman could do such a thing. Jessica just stared at Emma, her mind unable to comprehend why she would want to do something as cruel as that to her.
The police come immediately when the names of Delgado and Gates we’re mentioned. The four women were led to the police station and some women followed to stand as witnesses.
“Hello ma’am” the police greeted as soon as they entered the station.
“They are saying hello to you,” Leslie said nudging Jessica when she saw she did not respond.
“Oh Hello” she responded.
“Hello” Leslie and Alicia said in unison.
“I am sorry about the inconvenience,” the police man said. He seemed to be the head as he spoke with authority although fear was still in his eyes as he spoke with them.
“Young lady sit there,” one police said as he dragged Emma to one of the iron chairs around one table at a corner.
“Is this how the police treat society? Should a pregnant woman sit on such a cold iron chair?” Emma said as her voice suddenly became restored.
Alicia walked slowly towards her and stopped in front of her before leaning towards her ears and whispering in them.
“Do not try to aggravate me or else you would regret it. So sit now”
The authority in Alicia’s voice drove Emma to one of the chairs. She sat as a quiet cat in a corner as she watched the whole station fuss and shake at the sight of the three women.
“Mrs. Delgado if you don’t mind could you give us a statement of what happened,” one of the men in uniform said leading her to one of the couches.
“Of course,” Jessica said following him.
“Okay I would ask a few questions,” the officer said again as she took her seat.
“And I would try to answer them properly to the best of my knowledge” Jessica replied.
Emma scoffed in a corner. Jessica had always seemed uptight and proud to her. She seemed to fit well into the midst of these ladies of prestige and class.
“Do you know the woman in question?” the officer asked.
Jessica contemplated how to answer. If she should admit how she knew the girl then does that mean she would spill out in the public how she met her husband?
“Yes I do, we used to be friends” Jessica replied.
She could not lie so she would try to tell the truth without revealing anything that might have Xavier. She needed to be wise. She should be seen as a good wife by both him and the public.
Why did she want to be seen as a good wife by him? The public was reasonable. The marriage was for the show after all and the show for the public. But why she wanted him to acknowledge her she was not sure.
“Friends?” the officer asked shocked. “Do you have any idea as to why she would do this?”
“I don’t have any idea why. I have not seen her since my ex-boyfriend cheated on me with her” Jessica said in only half-truths.
“Ohhhh,” the officer said uncomfortably. “Thank you for your statement”
“It’s no worries,” Jessica said standing up to the waiting chair in the corner.
Alicia and Leslie follow her and sit down.
“I am not an expert on police stations. What do I do now? Do I go?” Jessica asked in a whisper.
“You have to wait for them to get her testimony and for a guardian to pick you up,” Alicia said.
“Guardian?” Jessica asked and her heartbeat rose when she thought that Xavier could come.
She doubted that he would make it. Or even think to come but the thought put her heart in a strange state.
“What are you doing here?”
