Stella froze for a moment before she burst into fits of exaggerated laughter.
“Ha! Have you gone nuts, Diane? How could you say something like that? Who do you think you are?
You’re just a helpless little staff member who has to feign politeness in front of me. How are you going
to kick him down from his spot? You’re going to do it in your dreams, right? Haha!”
Diane stood up tall in front of her; she stared right into her eyes and said, “Just wait and see—you’ll
know what I really mean. Also, don’t think that I’ll be threatened by some silly rumors that your minions
have spread. Let me tell you again—you can have that moldy bun all you want. Norman is already
dead to me. I wish you happiness with him; just make sure you don’t choke.”
Immediately after that, Diane whirled around and stormed out furiously without another look at Stella.
Stella did not disclose their dispute in the supervisor’s office to the others; she was great at pretending,
and she acted all normal and amiable on the outside. In the dark, she allocated a generous amount of
difficult tasks for Diane to be completed on a tight deadline.
Fortunately, Diane’s work productivity was higher than average. Even though she had to work
endlessly without a moment to rest or breathe, she was able to hand in all her work on time.
Soon, it was almost the end of the week. Just like before, Christopher was nowhere to be seen the
entire week. Nevertheless, Diane wasn’t curious about the women he was staying with either; she was
only interested in what would happen on Friday. Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
Friday came in the blink of an eye. When the clock hit 5.30PM, the office started bustling with life.
“Quick! Wrap it up, guys—it’s time to go. Rumor has it that the CEO’s son will be there, so hurry up!
Let’s head over to see what he looks like!”
One of the younger female staff members—who was usually energetic and full of life—jumped to her
feet as she squealed in excitement. Then, someone else chimed in from the side and said, “Yeah,
yeah! He graduated from Oxford and he’s from a rich family. Apparently, he’s taking the opportunity to
come forward at the mid-year cocktail party before he takes over the company. Oh, one more thing—
he’s an eligible bachelor! That’s the most important part!”
“What does that have anything to do with you?” Someone butted in with a chuckle. “Don’t you already
have a boyfriend?”
The woman let out a sigh in response. “I’d rather not have one if I had the choice. If I had known about
it, I wouldn’t have decided to bring him along. Now, I won’t be able to check out the hotshot in peace.”
The mid-year cocktail party of NG Enterprise served to gather company employees from all their
branch offices along with those from the headquarters. Not only that, attendees could bring a family
member with them as well. After all, the intention of the higher-ups was for their employees to have a
warm gathering at the end of the first half of the year.
Such an event had been a company tradition for many years, and this year was no exception.
After a round of lively discussion in the office, everyone started leaving to get changed and put on
some makeup. The party was being held at the most luxurious hotel in the city, and everyone was
going to gather there for the night’s event.
Diane used to be unbothered about how she would dress for occasions like these. She would show up
in a set of business-wear clothing which made her stand out in a horrible way amongst her fellow staff
members—the rest of them would dress glamorously in gowns with heavy makeup on their faces.
However, Diane was different tonight; after her payday last week, she bought herself a new dinner
dress which was made with expensive silk. It was turquoise in color and had an off-the-shoulder cutting
paired with a tight waistline. The dress perfectly accentuated her beautiful figure without the use of
excessive jewelry.
Not only that, she let down her hair—which was usually up in a ponytail—before getting it
professionally straightened temporarily at the salon. Her lustrous locks hung casually over her
shoulders, and since she wasn’t skilled in makeup, she didn’t put much effort into her face. She simply
applied a light layer of elegant coral lipstick onto her lips.
With that, she showed up at the entrance of the hotel at 7.00PM.
Coincidentally or not, a high-pitched female voice came from behind her just as she stepped out of the
taxi.
“Diane.”
It was Stella. At that moment, she was walking over from the parking lot with her arm coiled around
Norman’s.
“Are you here by yourself? Where’s your man who’s a thousand times better?”
Stella spouted insults as soon as she opened her mouth.
