CHAPTER 144
BOOK 2: CHAPTER 14
Harriette’s POV
The moment I walked into the breakfast hall and my eyes landed on Rowan, I froze. He had the exact same mark on his neck and the reason I could see it was because he was half naked.
I didn’t freeze just because of the mark but I froze because of his body too. Shamelessly at that.
I trained with male warriors back in our pack. Half of the time they were half–naked and I never got affected this much by their nakedness. The crazy thing was he only had his side turned to me.
“Stop staring, Harriette,” Ella hissed close to my ear.
I wanted to look away but it was too late, Rowan had turned towards the direction where we were standing and before I knew it, he was in front of
- me.
His eyes moved down to the turtleneck I was wearing that barely covered up the mark or should I say bruise. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me out of the room with him.
“Can you let me go?” I demanded.
He didn’t respond. He kept on dragging me to heaven knows where. His grip on my wrist was tight and it was beginning to hurt like a bitch.
“You’re hurting me,” I suddenly screamed and he finally let go of me. I looked around to see we were almost at the Alpha’s office building.
When I looked back at him, he was staring at my wrist.
I held it with my other hand and massaged it gently.
“What’s going on?” I asked. “Why are we here?” I added.
He stared at me with a hard glare on his face. I didn’t think I’d ever seen him smile since I came to his pack.
And that made me question a lot of things. Why should I care if he smiled or not? Shouldn’t I be more concerned about carrying out my mission successfully?
Must he die for Luke, my betrothed to live?
Couldn’t I take the ‘thing‘ from him and go my way? Must I also take his life?
I looked away when his gaze turned too intense for me to handle.
“What’s that?” he asked.
I should be the one asking that. “It was you who…” I stopped when I saw him pointing at the dark patch on my neck. His finger almost touched it but I moved away.
I shrugged. “I don’t know,” I half lied.
I had a theory as to how the mark ended up on my neck but I had no explanation whatsoever as to why the mark was on his neck.
“Where were you last night?” He suddenly asked.
I stared at my feet. “In my room,” I answered.
“STOP,” he suddenly yelled. “Stop lying. I know there’s something strange about you and the more I try to find out, the more complicated you become,”
“I don’t…”
He interrupted me with his hard glare.
Why was he mad? Why does my heart hurt because he was mad?
Why did I suddenly feel breathless because he was mad?
‘A logical explanation about this,” he pointed to the mark. “is what I want, and whatever I, Rowan wants is what I’ll get. If you don’t want to tell me,
11:05AM & d
ne but know this Harriette, I’ll find you out,”
He threatened.
I wanted to yell back at him that I’d also been experiencing strange things since I stepped into this pack but I couldn’t. Instead of words, I let out a deep breath as I fought the tears.
What the fuck was I so sad about? If those tears slipped, I could kill myself.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Alpha Rowan. I’m as clueless as you are,”
I answered sharply.
I turned on my heels and walked away from him. I wasn’t just sad anymore, I was also angry and I wasn’t just angry at him, I was also angry at myself.
He’s so annoying! I mumbled under my breath. “I hate him. I so much hate him that I would pay anything to see him in a pile of mud or inside a fucking latrine“,
“I think almost everyone would have a good laugh if we saw that,”
Someone said with a chuckle from behind me.
I turned to see it was Gideon. “Hi Tiger,
“Hi, Mr. Gideon,”
I scrunched my nose as I said that. Ella had explained to me that they don’t use the usual title other packs use so it got confusing as to what to address him by. Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
He started laughing. He sounded like a crow while laughing. I wanted to tell him it wasn’t pleasant to the ear but I was taught as a child that it was forbidden to disrespect anyone in authority.
“Mr. Gideon. That’s new,” he said, still laughing.
“I didn’t know what to call you,”
Just Gideon is fine. Thank you,”
I nodded. He didn’t stop laughing either.
“I was looking for you and I’m glad I found you,”
He placed his arm across my shoulder. I found it weird but I didn’t move away.
“Why are you looking for me?” I asked.
He stared at me, then winked. I frowned.
“Come with me,”
He urged me to keep walking.
“Why is everyone pulling me away without my consent this morning?”
I haven’t even had my breakfast. I really didn’t have much energy to walk around.
Gideon suddenly stopped. “What was that with Alpha Rowan this morning? What did you do, tiger?”
He asked with an eyebrow raised.
“I’m not always in trouble.” I told him.
He smiled. “Yes, you are. You haven’t used up to two months in this pack and you’re already known for trouble. Now, tell me, what was it this time?” “Nothing, really,” I lied.
He nodded. He gave me a look that made me think he didn’t believe me.
We kept on walking till we got to an open field. I could see both men and women training on the field.

11:05 AM
“Why am I here?” I asked again.
“We’re trying to increase our security system in the pack and we thought we could use more manpower. I suggested you by the way,”
He said proudly.
Although my eyes smiled, my mind said, why the fuck would you do that?
“We’ll have an important guest in the coming days and we need to be ready,”
Ooh. You’re preparing for the arrival of the Werewolf King,”
1 said.
The look on Gideon’s face made me swallow hard. He looked scared and surprised at the same time if that was possible. He dropped his arm from my shoulder and suddenly moved away.
“How did you know that?” Rowan suddenly asked, his signature frown on his face.
My mouth suddenly went dry and I could see my skin turning pale.
Shit! Why did I say that?
